You will gain more feel with braid because of the low stretch. But at the same time, you can rip a bait right out of a fish's mouth because of this too. I don't use braid on my crankbait and spinnerbait setups. The other problem I have had with braid is it tearing through my guides. It can cut like a hacksaw if you don't have the right eyes. This is one reason some guys will use larger diameter braid. Braids over the years have gotten a lot better, but I remember when they first came out you couldn't tie a knot without it slipping out. Poor knot strength. You won't lose many fish or baits with braid and it can last on you reel longer than mono or flouro. Just remember though, no single type of line is perfect for all fishing conditions.

I'll fish for anything that swims, and I always have 3 or 4 different rigs set up for 3 or 4 different types of fishing, but I spend the majority of my time drift fishing the Pierce/Thurston county rivers. Right now I only have the braid on a spinning reel, just so I can get a good feel for if I want it on my baitcaster or not. Up to this point I have only tried it out on a lake, but I'm a big fan so far.
Also, I agree with Bodo on this one, if your line doesn't break as easy your gonna get it back more often..... DUH! And ANY type of line left in the river is just as bad as the next.

I use braid for plugs and spoons and you can be sure I leave a lot less lying on the bottom than anybody using mono. I may bend a few hooks but I get the gear back. If you can't cast with braid, don't snivel about others that can. Never lost a fish because of braid.....tight lines wrote:for river's any river throw the crap away really. all that junk does is screw up the river when you break or cut the crap. And then you have a bunch of mono guy's pissed off. Please please do us river guy's a favor and never use it. besides if you cant land a fish in a river without mono. there is something very very wrong. just my .2
PS if anyone wants to get high and mighty about mono, first make sure you have biodegradable line on your reel.

When I find line laying on the shore... 99% of the time its mono/flouro. And a lot of it.
That said, I dont use braid on my Bass gear (spinning) much. Only my Musky gear (bait caster).

If you like it on a caster, you'll love it on a spinner. You'll cast at least 25% farther.
