popper fly's

Post by JT26 » Wed Jul 11, 2007 2:27 pm

i got a whole bunch of old lures and rods and reels today, and some of the lures were small with cork bodies and the rest was a fly. i have them in all colors almost, but dont know what people use them to catch. im not even sure if there called popper flys, i just kinda guessed. So what do people catch with them?

Also, i have 3 red flys, but they have small propellers at the front. THey are just over maybe a half inch or smaller. Since they are red i assume they are for salmon, but im not sure. Thanks for any help,

JT

sounds like you have some poppers, small size are used for panfish such as sunfish, larger ones usually for bass. the prop flies are could be what they call pistol pete's they are great for trout and panfish. look on the prop blade, it may have the name of a maker on it. the poppers can be used with a flyrod, or fished behind a casting bobber with spinning gear. <')//<
