Forum for premium/more than basic members - fishing pairing

Post by MikeFishes » Sun Jun 17, 2007 10:28 pm

So, kzoo posted a very generous offer to everyone of fishing with him. Had I seen it, I would have offered him my company for the morning o:). But that got me to a thinking. You guys should create a forum where the premium members (well, those that aren't the basic free members) can post up offers of fishing on their boat to other premium members. Now, I say the premium because I wouldn't want to offer just to anyone, but to those who are responsible members of this site I'd gladly offer up (that's if and when I get a boat :bounce:). Of course, I'm not saying that us freeloaders aren't responsible or trustworthy. From what I've seen, lot's of the people on this site I would learn a ton from. It's just an added level of security for those who would like to offer up space on their boat. It would also be just another feature that would tip us freeloaders to pony up some.

Just an idea.

i have been on other sites such as nwbasser where if you have so many post's you are considered a patron to the site and you get accsess to other things that newer people cant. for instance the patrons on that site have there own special board where they can share tips with al the patrons.

Probably a stupid question, but how does one become a premium member on this website? I have been looking around, but can't find anything about becoming a premium member?

I visit many other types of forums, and have seen this idea put forth. I have never seen it work out, it usually leads to infighting when you setup a caste system...

Just my two cents.

Security,Secshmurity. Thats laughable. It's a great idea in theory if your into the whole snooty snoot "I'm a platinum member you simple commoner". I am a member to many other forums and this idea has bombed big time. I am fairly new to this site but it seems that the majority are, how do you say,"freeloaders" , and most sound like honest nice people. A special "Designation" is not going to keep you safe, but just the opposite, I believe that it will alienate you from the majority of the people. Mikey, isn't the air way up there on your pedestal really thin? OK i am done before I get real ugly and hammer more of your statements![-x WOW I need to go fishing!

If or when we add another level it would be based on enhanced features for the entire site, not just the Forum. There would not be a subtraction of anything currently available, rather a value added set of items that Aaron and I are working on.

I think if you had a premium membership one of the "value added" features could be a "lure of the month"....maybe try to get companies to sponsor it.....since you are both busy I'd be willing to volunteer in trying to get sponsors.........

We are always looking for new sponsors. If anyone out there wants to promote us and get the word out to these tackle manufacturers, Sportign Goods stores, etc, we would be most grateful. Aaron and I arer pretty busy just running the site and it is really hard to find the time to do everythign else we could/should do!

I kinda agree with Fish4brains, I don't see what the value is in labeling yourself "Premier" or something like that. We're just a bunch of working guys chasing fish....keep it simple. I like the whole ranking system currently in place, only because it's fun!!!!

My 2 cents

I have been there and done that. It is indeed an honor to fish with the Supreme Overlord. Mike is a very nice fellow and a superb angler. I have also had the honor of having him on my old Bass Tracker a few times. And, we caught a few nice fish. How lucky can I get!
A nice bass is too valuable a resource to enjoy catching only once.

im not a premium member, but i have vast knowledge of lakes and rivers east of the mountains. i am willing to trade that knowledge for a spot in someones boat. im fishing the lower yakima river this weeke-end, and then potholes the following 2 week-ends. i have a rental boat the last week-end at potholes, but i am open to to a trade on the first 2 week-ends. i think my dept of agriculture shipping certifications as a "known shipper" worldwide, make me a secure kind of guy.

My only point about the whole "premier" member thing is that I figured some people would be more likely to offer space on their boat if they knew that the people they were offering to were responsible. How ever a web site might do that, be it using a member class/status type of thing or whatever.

Now, I'm not saying anyone here is not responsible or would do something bad. It does, however, take only 1 person to ruin it for the rest of us.

well... you're conversation is off course. We aren't interested in starting any kind of caste system either. Aaron and I are looking at levels of participation and services provided. We currently have casual users that aren't members and don't get to use the Forum, Comments, or the Expanded Report Form. That is their level of comfort and participation. Then we have members, which do get the above services only because they registered to become members (free). And someday we envision paying members which will get another level of services for a nominal yearly charge. That level will have access to a deeper level of services that Aaron and I are working on. If a person didn't think the additional benefits of the paid section were worth it they would still have access to everything that is currently available to registered, free members. Lots of web sites use this approach and we think it will work for WL.com. As to what the additional services will be, well, that my friends is classified. :-$

No need to be a premim anything to go fishing with me. Just ask. I got the toys and I like to share. Simple as that.

I don't what kind of special members there are, I will not wear a dot on my forehead. We're all the same in "his" eyes.
