Scents

Post by RB » Thu Oct 16, 2008 7:04 pm

I have been reading up on different forums and have seen that some people use scents for fishing. I used to when I was in VA but have since strayed quite a bit from it. I mostly ask this for my swimbaits but would sparingly use it on my plastics/cranks when I go out too. I just wanted to see if people have success with them . I've seen a lot of good stuff about pro cure bait scents and am on the fence about picking some up.

thanks,

RB

Another great question, I have used scents with bass but not enough to say I'll use it on a regular basis. I believe it can help,
at least getting rid of the human odor. I've caught bass with and without scents....I have no clue. I think are dedicated bass anglers will be able to provide some solid input.

Start experimenting with some combinations...

I actually make my own scent and test stuff out on trial runs...send me some of your stuff and I will scent it up! Maybe I will "spice" it up for you :)

I don't really want to release what my base for the scents are. Although, I do have a few ones I am testing out right now. The thing is, I don't have much free time to actually fish them...just trying to see if the scent will last in the baits.

Wanna send some stuff my way?

For soft swimbaits I try my best to use scent, not as much for the actual scent, but for slipperyness, if thats a word. Ive seen big bass up here that have disticnt teeth, not fangs or anything, but visible teeth. So, if you think aboot it, when a hog chomps down on your soft swim, when you set the hook with no lube, the hookset might suck. Add some lube, your hookset power should increase. Ask any swimbaiter, they will tell you the same.

I use Megastrike, my buddies also use it, and also ProCure. PC is sweet man, trust me, esp the craw and rainbow!!

yup scent more for lube than attractant. We need to take a pic of the "Bass hand" we get after hauling in some of these fish on a good day - they got some teeth on em!

I made the mistake of chopping jalapeños with bass thumbs last weekend. It burns!!!! it Burns!

Oh, and two flavors of megastrike for me, depending on the species. It's a great product and they have GREAT customer service.

Just got some rainbow trout pro cure, and a megabait four inch rainbow trout and got some action on it the other day. It wasn't the best producing lure, but for this time of year, I thought it was holding it's own, I can't wait for the water to warm back up!!!!!!!!!
