RE:Perch time
I have a honey hole in eastern washington where I can catch perch over 11''. Biggest was pushing 13''. They were biting 6.5'' lizards and 5'' senkos. We caught 6, smallest was 10''. I have not seen perch this size in years. Potholes used to be great for perch. The first time I caught one of these perch I didnt know what it was, I was surprised to see them so big. Next trip I plan to keep a few and fry them up, heard perch are the best gamefish.

My fishing trip was cut in half.Still I had a great time.I got called back at 2:00 pm .Its ok they werent hitting that well.I did manage to catch 6 SMB.Boy were those fun.Biggest was around 3 lbs. Most were around 10''.All were released unharmed and they swam away nicely. All in all I had a great 2.5 hours of fishing. At first I walked in down like 3 flights of stairs then about 200 yards to my spot.Looked in my bag to find no license.I fished for 15 minutes till the guilt made me sweat.I went back to my car and moved to the SYC and fished.Thats where I nailed a big bass.
Fried Perch extra crisp with some good hotsauce are da bomb. When they are big like that they filet soooo nice.Roll in cornmeal and fry.Yummmmers.

No frying!!No wife (anymore). But it didnt really matter because I took home No Perch.I was fishing tight line for perch and the smb would not leave my bait alone.I got some nice battles with some nice bass.I released them all.The bass had a dark color .Kinda looked like Lake Union fish that I wouldnt eat no matter what.Back to perch.I have been poaching my Perch with garlic or dill and white wine and letting them simmer. Its not like crispy fried but its not bad.Perch are versatile in cooking.

RE:Perch time
Seems to me the perch have been late this year. I'm usually into them in late May, I haven't caught any at my favorite spot until 2 weeks ago. What's up with that?

First of all the lake level right now is very high. The rock in front of mom and das home is almost submerged when usually this time of year the rock is 90 % visible.Ive noticed the lakes high water all summer.I would think more water more cooler tempratures.Lots of perch in front of the house but they are 3-7 '' .Thats small and barely worth cleaning. The Perch near the U of W are always much larger. Some up to a couple to 3 Lbs.Even the silvers are late this year.Reports say they are just now trickling in our inland waters.I remember years ago we fished the Uof W area all into football season .We'll see what happens.I plan on fishing that area again this weekend. Good luck to everyone and please drive safely.

3 lb perch? WOW! And I thought my honey hole with 13-14-15 inch perch was good. I might have to go down to the U-dub. To bad you can't eat the crispy fried perch, my favorite is beer-batter.
I think you are on to something with the high lake level and cooler water. All the freshwater fishing I've done this year, on both sides of the mountains has been off the normal trends.

Whats really cool these past few years in and all around Lk Wa is a major bank restoration project. They are trying to build up a stronger more stable shoreline with great cover for fish and wildlife.Down by Madrona they reopened a piped creek and eventually want to start a fish run and or produce spawning areas.I love the Idea plus its nice to see a new clean flow into the lake.More oxygen to keep the fishies happy.Lake Wa will get better and better as people become more concious of polution and the damage it can do.
Ok Ok OK I dont weigh my fish with some hokie pokie digital scale nor do I use a fish Deliar scale.I use a Racfish Truth Stretcher to weigh my fish.My fish grow with each story. Its a bad fishing habit. Its addicting like smoking or using chaw.Hehehe.I grew up in the South End of Seattle.Went to Sharples and Franklin.I took story embelising all through school.

I'm a northender, Lake city area.
Sounds like the truth stretcher is working just fine! I got a little excited because I was browsing the king county snapshots page awhile back and saw some pics of the southend of the lake back when the Black river was the outlet and there were fishing and hunting resorts there. There was one picture in particular that got my intrest. It was a stringer of fish that looked to be in the 3-5 lb range, but because of the picture quality back then you can't tell what they were.
It's great to see the lake cleaner than it was even 30 years ago. I've been eating perch 2-3 times a month for years and don't have any extra fingers or toes....

As a kid growing up in Seward Park I remember swimming at the beach. It was mandatory to shower after swimming or youd get the itch.I mean a serious itch at that. When I fell in last week I upon getting home hosed off real good. The lake is getting better but got aways to go.Still too many way older boats on the lake.I love the old Chris Crafts and Chris Connies but they leak a bit too much if not kept up.I too eat alot of fish from Lk Wa. and I dont glow at night either.
