Am I addicted?

Post by MikeFishes » Thu Jun 07, 2007 5:31 pm

Okay, so in traveling across 2 states to visit the in-laws I kept on looking around at all the bodies of water (never knew there were so many) and I found myself trying to guess if there was anything in it. Even the little swampy ponds. Is this a problem? :compress:

If that is a 'problem', I probably should be in the loonybin by now.

Yes, you have a problem. As the FAIO of this site I must interject and tell you that we are here for you Mikey. Your WL.com family cares about you.
The first step is to admit you have a problem. The next step is to take it one day at a time. Then you must talk to someone you trust and take them fishing. This is the only way to solve your problem. Any and every body of water must be fished to help you stop guessing if there is anything in it.
If this doesn't help littleriver has some special medicine that will take your mind off of your problem. Of coarse it will give you another problem, but if that lasts for more than 4 hours consult your physician immediatley.

You are no more addicted than the rest of us, lol. I'm always on google looking for new water to fish. Maybe this website should come with a "support group" section, haha.:-k

i admit it , i look at every body of water just knowing there's some sort of <')//< in it. it was so bad when i was a kid that when the snow melted on our huge lawn there would be a nice size pool of water about 2ft deep. i went down to the river below our place and caught about 10 big suckers and put them in it (couldn't stand not seeing any fish in it). had to have the neighber boys come over to my private pond to fish them back out the next day after my mother seen them. -< -< )',//<

Twelve steps my friend

1. get the bug
2. get a license
3. get over priced pole
4. buy lures
5. buy bait
6. find place to fish
7. learn what works from local
8. buy what works
9. buy boat
10 buy motor
11. throw all that stuff, kids and wife in boat
12. catch a lunker fix

You have no fishing problem. You see a body of water and fish it. It's no problem.

This is my logic for lots of things :)

Hi my name is Gary and I'm a fishaholic...

I can't look at a puddle without trying to find the holding water. One of the best bass waters I found when I was in high school was a 6 foot wide ditch running around a 35 acre corn field. We started fishing it as a joke but soon figured out that there were bass in there and they had NEVER seen a lure.

Keeping scoping out any and all bodies of water, you just might stumble on a fishing gold mine.

Hey Gjorgy, I grew up in Stanwood....was it the ole stangland farm? ;) Kidding...cool story.

Hi, my name is Douglas and Im a fishaholic.
I am pretty close to losing my girlfriend over the fact. I live on a lake, she wants me to move in with her. The odds of that happening are not good, as I can get up and fish from the dock or take the ole kayak out anytime without much of a hassle. Although I cant fish many of you under the table, I will fish just about anything.
I was so desperate the other day, I almost started to fish in the toilet reservoir, after all, it was nice clear water with some cover (float ball).

Cheers,
D~

Hey Kayak, No it was definately NOT around that stinky ol' farm. (We could smell that farm from the one I worked on down the road.) I found the ditch up on fir Island. Pretty sure the fish are gone now because of the big floods up there but I might just have to explore the area again.

Remember you have to fish the toilet reservoir at high tide and it's catch and release only!

my addiction started when i was about 6 yrs old. we had moved to this town where our house was maybe only 300 yards from the crow river in central minnesota. there were many lakes in the area but the main lake was lake koronise. i grew up dragging a big duffle bag for my school books and keeping my fishing gear in my locker. there was not one fish that didn't know me 10 miles up and 10 miles down the river. i had to bike 3 miles to the closes fishable area on the lake, but the fishing was and still is better at the next spot, hole, tree, etc. i would go out at night after a rain and pick up a 5 gal, bucket of night crawlers, bike around the lake starting around 5 am. sell all my crawlers at .50 a doz. and use the bucket to carry all of my fish back home. it was about a 35 mile trip twice a week untill i was 15. the family moved to east wenatchee washington in 79 when i was 16. buy then i could drive and hit all the water i could find mostly from the entiat river down to the three lakes in malaga to the rock island ponds. found a girl friend our should i say she found me, who didn't mind my tom and huck ways.she would walked to school early in the mornings helping me fill a can full of worms after and or during a rain. she still tells stories of trying to entice me into the back of a pickup truck, only to see me wonder further away chasing that big trout down river.( this has happen several times). would look at her jewlery to see if they would make a lure. still do! we have been married 25 yrs and she has had serveral interventions on my behalf. she still trys to lug around with me while i get my needed fix. but she likes a good chair next to a decent hole. she,ll usually take home more fish than me ( but she usually doesn't know that i caught more than her). i'll still stay up untill 3am getting my fishing stuff ready for a trip and get up at 5 to leave by 7am. i keep back sliding into this addiction i have, i feel there is no hope. i do well during the week but come friday there is just to many boats flying by with the driver looking for a fix, and come sunday evening you can tell they got their fix. im a lost cause!!! <')//<

i would head out fish'n early with the family and head back home late way after the fish stopped their bite and after the kids stopped their crying. i can hardly stand to walk around with the wife shopping, but i can walk all day long sun up to sun down fishing a river or a lake. i use to bike 50+ miles a day every other day when i was a teanager. i love the smell of a lake on a warm summer day. i would and could still sit up into the wee hours cleaning the buckets of fish caught that day(don't do that much any more though) i can go on, an on but yes i'm happy with my addiction, just wish i would have done it in away to have made a living at it. <')//<

I've been fishing since I could hold a pole but I really didnt get the bug until the high school years when during the summer there wasnt much else to do for me but walk 3 blocks to the Pend Orielle River (Metaline, WA) and fish till I couldnt see the tip of the pole anymore. I wasnt much into partying so me and my friends (only 3 in walking distance) would go fish on the river bank or go camping at a local lake.

So mike, no you arent addicted or crazy (my wife would say otherwise). In fact I plan on getting off my fat butt some day this summer and walking up to see if Wolf Lake (Pend Orielle Co) still exists and if it does to see if anything lives in it.
