How to get the WDFW to do?
How to get the WDFW to do?
How about a section on how to get the WDFW to consider to look in to or to get something done. After all the discussions on the walleye I caught in long like and vering into a topic of variety of fish in it to people intrested in fishing it, I come to realize there is no WDFW works too or on that lake. I personally would like to find out how to get the WDFW to install a Launch, then they would have an interest in it. being so close to spokane I don't understand why there isn't one.
Well its not called Catching!
RE:How to get the WDFW to do?
The WDFW does an amazing job and they are stretched pretty thin. I would like to think money could be allocated to improve or implement new facilities through the county not the WDFW. The WDFW does an amazing job as it is, in my opinion. They get a lot done on the and off the water.
RE:How to get the WDFW to do?
I agree with you, I am not Knocking WDFW. I would just like to figure out the steps of how we as sportsman can look in to the possibilities.

Contact them eustace. The more they here from us the better. They put out questionnaires every once in a while that you can voice your opinions or suggestions on. But if you don't say anything they won't know what you want or need. And I can guarantee, they're not going to guess.

I would think you'd have to start with the county first. But still contact WDFW. Put a bug in their ear.eustace wrote:How about a section on how to get the WDFW to consider to look in to or to get something done. Maybe the forum could build a form page that sends a pdf or an email form to the specified region's person for easy communication.

WDFW is excellent compared to Oregon. To get my fishing license there it would around eighty dollars. They charge you terrible prices to launch boats at alot of lakes. Now you even have to take and pass a test in order to drive a boat...
RE:How to get the WDFW to do?
Gisteppo, that is what I am talking about. I decided to call region 1's office and all I got was a run around and that the have community comments from time to time, but eavery time I have been to one in the past they decied the topic.

KurtO - is the licence fee so high because you arnt a resident to Oregon state?
eustace - the regional office for area 2 sounds a lot like area 1. I called to see if the Quincy area lakes were still iced over for the opener and it was like I was speaking Japenese, they didnt have a clue what I was talking about

They have done the same thing here. Next thing you know we will have to pass a government test to ride a bike. The powers that be here in Vancouver have passed a rule that EVERYONE riding a bike, scooter or skateboard has to wear a helmet! That is why I gave up riding a motorcycle...stupid helmet laws. I wore a helmet most of the time, but I already have a mom, I do not need the nanny state telling me to finish my vegetables.KurtO wrote:WDFW is excellent compared to Oregon... Remember the WDFW is a goverment entity and the goverment is for the people by the people. The biggest obsticle is obviously the funds. question, where does our fees go, back into the WDFW or is our fees pooled to other gov programs.

RE:How to get the WDFW to do?
They help to stock all our lowland lakes and pay WDFW officers in the field. I'm sure Dave could chime in here because he works in this field. All the trout you catch, must be raised, trucked, and planted...our license dollars (very cheap in my opinion - $23 for fresh and something like that for salt) -- go to improve existing facilities and pay WDFW staff along with helping stock and ensure fisheries in our local area lakes and river that we all love so much...eustace wrote:question, where does our fees go, back into the WDFW or is our fees pooled to other gov programs.

RE:How to get the WDFW to do?
I would be willing to spend a little extra cash on a license just as long as the money continues to help WDFW in stocking efforts and other fishery related projects.kuttkilla wrote:They help to stock all our lowland lakes and pay WDFW officers in the field. So would I...even if the fresh water annual was $35.00 USD I would still purchase it...WDFW does a great job in stocking our local lakes and enforcing local lake laws...kevinb wrote:I would be willing to spend a little extra cash on a license just as long as the money continues to help WDFW in stocking efforts and other fishery related projects.kuttkilla wrote:They help to stock all our lowland lakes and pay WDFW officers in the field. ...I'm glad boaters will be required to take a boating class by 2009 and then it's staged out from there according to when you were born. It's good...there are many people on the water that shouldn't be out there on the water with motorized craft and have no clue what certain bouys mean...just go to the Kenmore launch and watch people drill their outboards in 6" of water when they take off to the left out of that Kenmore launch...I remember the story of when one young boater (15 year old) ran over another person on Lake Sammamish and tore their family member's arm up with the prop...some people need a basic boating class...some don't...
side note...as far as a LAW for wearing a helmet...that's dumb...if you don't want to wear one, you shouldn't be forced too...government should not intervene with everything in our lives...I personally always wear a helmet when I mountain bike because when I fall off I save my head from serious damage...and my I've gone through quite a few helmets...but I don't think it should be a law.

It's finally time they made that rule.KurtO wrote: Now you even have to take and pass a test in order to drive a boat...
You gotta pass a test to drive a car, boats are equally as dangerous, so it seems reasonable that license is needed to be a boat operator as well..

RE:How to get the WDFW to do?
I agree with the rule of getting certified. That way ALL watercraft operators KNOW the rules of boating period. There should be an extra long test for the knobs on Lake Tapps that like to jet ski and waterski within 10 yards of someone who is stopped on the lake.
As far as the helmets, I think if you,ve got a boat with huge hp such as 200 or more you may want to wear one. You already have to wear a lifejacket when moving which is cool with me. If your clipping 60mph on the water and you go flying it could save your life.I think the Bassmaster guys wear them. Just one man's opinion.
I'd like to see a husband wife license. Say for like $40.00 would be cool. My wife then would get more involved. See yah!

Isn't that the truth...those jet-skis when put in hands of the wrong people can be ill-guided, flying missiles on the water that can prove lethal.muskyhunter wrote:There should be an extra long test for the knobs on Lake Tapps that like to jet ski and waterski within 10 yards of someone who is stopped on the lake.
RE:How to get the WDFW to do?
I am friends with a WDFW Sergeant who I have known for about 15 years. I know the WDFW are very short handed and one or two officers often cover a very large area. This means coverage is bleak at times and us encountering a WDFW officer is hit and miss at best. All WDFW officers go through the same testing process as regular police officers and also have to attend the WA State Criminal Justice Training Commission Academy in Burien. There is also an academy in Spokane however it is my understanding that they only hold a couple classes per year. So the testing process is challenging which makes it hard to find qualified candidates. I believe that funding is also an issue limiting the number of officers the WDFW is able to employ. Ultimately I wish they had about 5 times as many WDFW Officers as they currently have employed which would allow us to see them regularly and would deter those who are not as ethical when it comes to fishing and hunting. As for helmets; I think it's a good law that has saved lives but I also understand and respect those who feel it is a matter of personal choice that should not be decided upon by the government. Same goes for seatbelts.
