Brain Dead

Post by northfork » Fri Jun 03, 2016 6:10 pm

Wasn't quite sure how to handle this situation today!!
I was fishing at my secret lake this morning all by myself. Lake was like glass, very peaceful and quiet waiting for a bow to take my bait.
A car comes down the road to the ramp and a gentleman steps out (65-66). Not old as I turn 61 in a few days.
He starts talking and never shuts up!!!! Gets his spot set up and starts bobber fishing. Still talking.
He then begins to tell me how he fishes this lake almost every day of the week while his wife is in school in Mt Vernon.
He has all day to fish until he has to pick her up and drive back to Oak Harbor.
He explains how he usually catches at least 3 limits of fish and sometimes up to five in a day.
He tries to give all the trout away to people who show up and fish during the day. If he can't give it away he hides it in his car and takes home whatever he caught for the day.
I left after 1/2 hour of this man talking without ever shutting up!!
The talking part doesn't bother me as I can just leave and go fish somewhere else where it is quiet and relaxing.
What does bother me is the fact that this person has no respect for the laws and the limits.
What would you do in this situation??
Next time I run into this fisherman I think I will take down his license plate # and the make and model of his car and report him to fish and game.
Should I warn him of what I am going to do to try and stop him? I don't want a confrontation. Jeez I'm just out relaxing.
Your thoughts??

DON'T tell him. He is probably a total idiot, no telling what a total idiot will do.

Report him and don't tell him. You would think at his age he would have more respect for the law.

First: Is he telling the truth? I think not. He is bragging about all the fish he catches. But...
Second: He is there a lot. You are there. How often do you see him? It should be easy to see if he gets more fish than he should and makes a trip to the car.
Third: Do you have a cell phone? Do you have the poaching line on your phone?
Watch out for him. See him doing it, make the call. He doesn't have to know.
Look for Wannafish A Lure on FaceBook

He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.

Sounds like the last time I went trout fishing earnestly. I had a nice day on the water, caught and released ONE trout. Then I ran into a couple of guys at the boat ramp that were throwing their stringer of fish into the bushes, walking by their boat it smelled like I wiped my nose in a jar of powerbait. Disgusting. What's the point? If you want to catch and release, do it for real. If you're hungry, use bait and eat them. SMH.

Sounds like to me you ran into someone who likes or loves to talk. There are guys in this world that love to chat and brag and stretch the truth. If you really feel like there is a issue put the number in your cell phone and next time call and report it. Looks like your up north and after watching our WDFW on TV there is a Female Game warden up there that seems like a real pain....I am sure she would love to talk with him. Just saying, if the shoe fits she will tie it very tight for him. But if you don't call or email them they can't respond.

Just remember there are all kinds in this world and some are a little more off the deep end so unless your prepared to defend yourself if needed just walk away and report it.

Thanks for the response guys.
Actually I have met the Gal that does the enforcing. She was very polite and nice to talk to at this lake.
I will get the car info and the next time I see her I will pass along my concerns.
She swings thru the launch at 0700 every morning like clockwork :nemo:
