Re: Crab Bouy Question.
I have, in the past, transported extra pots in my boat to the Juans when meeting more family (crabbers) up there. Good thread, didn't worry so much about it. I'll reread the regs. Probably need a sharpie and a can of spray paint.

We got our friend 2 buoys. He used our pots with his markings. we came home with a full limit of 15. As a bonus I got 4 lbs of smelts. Im going back this week for more smelt.

Regs: "must have its own buoy line and a separate buoy that is permanently and legibly marked ". That does not mean putting a piece of tape over someone else's name and writing your own on the tape. One poster suggested sanding the name off. White or red spray paint would work or a couple extra unmarked buoys on board. I made my own PVC flag post stick buoys. In stores, flag buoys are about $25-30. I made them for a fraction of that. No more having to hunt and peck to find our buoys at a distance!

Ive asked several law enforcement personnel and all but 1 said duck tape and a sharpie is a fine way to put your name on the pot, just be sure the bouy is marked with a name under the tape in case the tape comes off. When we go out shrimping it would be impossible for me to carry extra bouy's when I use huge LD bouys to prevent pull under.

[quote="Bobber_Dogging_Gal"]or a couple extra unmarked buoys on board.
I don't understand why you would need the unmarked buoys. Do you have the extra pots to go with them and are you picking up people you didn't plan on. I mark all my buoys before going out to match the people going with me. If all your pots have the properly marked buoys and the names are people onboard with license, two per person. Any added people don't have to have a pot with there name to take crab. That is per WDFW.

Iuse ba 40" pvc tube with a pinwell or a flag on top so it really shines. They are easy to spot and no bending over to retrieve pots.
