fished the skook the past 3 days. Had one good day. Be prepared for some tough fishing. The water has come down but the river looks like the puyallup in summer.

No fish in the Skook, don't waste the gas. Wait for the water to drop....

Hit the chuck early this morning, water still colored up and a little high but it is fishable. We saw a couple fish jump, and saw one caught at the corner hole 12lb hatchery. Lots of people today. Deadline, corner, flosser hole, plunkers. It should be HOT by mid week and the weekend. I'll be back down. We are headed to cowlitz now.

When I used to fish that river there was no "flosser hole". Looks like the degenerates have found that river too.
They've always been there. There's no need to call names though, don't sink to their level. We've already established that the Skookumchuck is the closest river for us up north to fish right now. We have to make the best of it and fish together, because there's nothing worse that a day on the river grumpy because we have to "put up" with other anglers. If you want to get angry at someone, blame WDFW and NOAA for shutting down C&R up here and go to Occupy Skagit in Olympia.

The "flosser hole" is the tail out to the corner. You know the place where people sight fish for moldy coho because the steelhead bite is too slow.

It's sad because the fish bite in that river but you have to expect the floss fest if you hit the skook. It'll only get worse from here on out as they stack up by the deadline the rippers will be out in force. Nice enough people in my experience just disagree with their "fishing" methods. Wish they post a warden there, the tickets could fund the hatchery probably. It's better in the fields if you want to get away from it.

Oh the fish still bite even with the long leaders that some guys throw. When they're in there, I never have trouble hooking them, even right out from under those guys. It's great when they are sitting there throwing back tail hooked moldy fish with three punches and you mouth a limit of chromers 20 feet upstream from them! The best part about it, is when you hook up so much and they come over mind boggled and ask you how you're getting them to bite. I'll never tell :-"

Update on cowlitz, fished below barrier dam with no luck. There was two other guys fishing right at the damn which I'm pretty sure is illegal. Anyways after that we moved down to blue creek. One plunker and the two of us on bobber and eggs. One fish between the 3 of us. Water was moving fast but the viability was good. I have a picture of the fish, even cropped it to try and fit it but it's still to big. I can't crop anymore without taking away part of the fish.

yeah that's a nice steelie, dannyL saw it on facebook. you can fish at dam but there is a sign up there that marks the boundary, its like 50-100ft below the actual damn, I see locals casting up into the fish collector part though so I wouldn't doubt people doing that right now. Tail out of the corner hole is super good when it is up. corky and prawn or float and jig around those trees on the other side. even plugs work :-$

DannyL, if you open the picture up in paint, you can go to image, resize/skew, put in a percentage and it will shrink the pic by the percent you put in.

Visited the skookumchuck again today. Heres a picture of the fishing conditions.

Heh no fish.. just a bunch of chocolate water. Its tough fishing out there. A week or so of no nets and high water, the river should be loaded with aggressive steelhead.
