This is the fastest way I've found to the Skookumchuck if you are coming from north of Olympia on I-5. You want to avoid the Nisqually Res if possible, and nearly any other back roads until you get south of olympia, simply for timesaving/travel speed.

Was there today from noon till dark. Started in the lower fields by the logjam and worked my way up. Caught a very nice 21" cutthroat down there, but nothing else happening, no fish rising or anything.

Went up by the hatchery in the later afternoon, saw fish caught, and a lot of fish being carted out, some chrome, some colored. Saw fish rolling all over the place just down from the hatchery, but couldnt hook anything. Eggs, prawn, jigs, corkies, nada. Fish rolling by my bobber but wouldnt bite, even near twilight.

Saw at least 3 come out on pink worms, too.

my favorite way to rig a bead under a float is tie a dropper jig on and then tie a second leader off the jig with a #4 hook and a bead or try bober dogging a bead.

peg a bead about an inch to inch and half above a #4 hook with three foot leader and one or two small shots spread out equally on the leader. You want the bead to drift freely across the bottom like an egg would.

What I like to use is a #4 black gamakatsu hook and 2 hevi beads spread about an inch away from each other. With hevi beads you can take the split shot out of the picture. Also they are UV and flat out look great in the water. Hope this helps.

Ummm Im not too sure. I dont think going a little bigger will affect the drift too much. Black Gamakatsu is important though.

I personally like a red hook and the bead is like a corky so match the size of bead with the hook like 8mm bead with a #4 hook or 6mm bead with a #2 hook or #2 hook with a 8mm bead and some white yarn if you want. Never tried the hevi beads but the trout beads are good for me in orange or red.

When you have a driftbobber/bead setup, check that it's the right size by placing it in the bend of the hook. It should fit in there snugly.

Well we got to the skook at 5:30 and there were already people there. We actually started at the corner hole "big oak that fell" lots of fish rolling and jumping, fish on every 15 minutes. I lost all mine buddy that I went with for a really nice hen that was 14lbs. Can't wait to go back!
