Fish On! wrote:I wonder how they are going to handle the opener at Burke? It opens on Friday and the fishing derby is the next day. Doesn't sound too productive having the fish stocked right before the derby starts. Maybe they'll have an emergency closure for Friday? Might be tough enforcing that as Burke is such a long lake and it's easy to cross over from Quincy. The area will be mobbed that's for sure. The Quincy lakes have been frozen or just opening up on the opener the past cold springs we seem to get now days, so I hope to see a report from that area soon. Hope for sunny, calm and 50's.....but most often it's cold and windy. Long range forecast has it warming up by the end of the week, so keep your fingers crossed. I've been snowed on a number of openers, so plan for anything. I'll be over there some where. Martha Lk. is usually decent and not so crowded. Being a Friday opener, it's going to be busy every where.

I believe there is a Martha Lake in E WA

You're right. Here's a couple of links to get you started:
WL.com lake info: http://www.washingtonlakes.com/LakeInfo.aspx?id=564&t=1
WL.com Martha Lake reports: http://www.washingtonlakes.com/ReportLi ... id=564&t=1
And a quick web search:http://www.fishingworks.com/lakes/washi ... rtha-lake/
Also page 91 of the regs: MARTHA LAKE (Grant Co.) All Game Fish Mar. 1-July 31 Statewide min. size/daily limit.

Sometimes sitting down with a cup of coffee and a set of the regulations provides new fishing opportunities. One might color code the regs with lakes that open March 1st, April 1st and the regular opening date. Then there's the special regs lakes called out. Might find something if there's a special reg lake, or a special limit lake, and one doesn't recognize the name of the lake.

Then looking at the map....

This is how I did things before the web and it paid big dividends. The web, if someone takes the time to search, just gets the job done quicker.

A search of the March 1st lakes might show Caliche Lakes, another popular spot with lots of parking about 5-6 miles away from Martha. Beyond that info, pour a cup of coffee and sit down with the regs. Paper regs are easier to review than cyber-regs (another tip)

Martha and Caliche (s) provide good close entertainment. I took a 3# hold over from Martha a few years ago. Never more than 10 minutes away from a hot cup of joe and some breakfast or a sandwich. George is a wonderful little town, too bad Martha's is gone.
Build a man a fire and he's warm for the night. Light a man on fire and he's warm the rest of his life!

Martha's Inn used to be a big truck stop in George, Washington. I don't know when it closed down but I remember stopping there in November 1973 as I was moving out to Washington.

Now it's closed down and there's other gas stations and eating places right at the on/off ramp in George.
