Never said you weren't, just saying I don't see a float in either of those two videos. All I see is weight, and in the 2nd one towards the end, a hook.
I fish not because I regard fishing as being terribly important, but because I suspect that so many of the other concerns of men are equally unimportant, and not nearly so much fun. ~ John Volker

Just trying to rile you up, Ignore!
Don't know who Gary is but here's another video of over one dozen fish FF and people are catching on the Samish I guess back in 2010 so maybe he forgot about them:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bYrqDJ6jm-c" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

There's a good dozen+ fish filmed hooked in this video with not a bobber in sight that I can see on any of the lines and not a single shot of a legal mouth hookup on film that is clearly identifiable to me (a couple still shots of deep throat hooks but the hook placement only appears on fish NOT being filmed and only being photographed, maybe that's the filmers schtick? But it seems odd to me).

Also seems weird to film all these fish but never show them with the hook attached being landed. And video shows some fish that clearly resemble foul hookups reminiscent of snagged fish (one in the gillplate and one around the pectoral fin around 4:40 minute mark in the 'deuces' segment but maybe the pectoral damage is from soemone else hooking up on that fish previously, certainly possible but the gillplate bleeding had to have been his or his buddy's hook I would think?).

Quite clearly I can see a corky running up the line of the fish hooked on drift gear at minute 9:37...

Not sure how FF can deny this but I guess it is the internet where perception can become reality?

Anyway I have better things to do so will now give it a rest and let people judge for themselves. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure he uses bobber and eggs some of the time, why wouldn't he? but I just don't get his insistence of never using drift gear when he has himself on video several times using drift gear on the Samish. And as mentioned I do wish him well in his guiding ventures.

I'm personally more a reality guy but undertsand perception can be important for others so as mentioned I'll move on. :salut:

All in my opinion only of course, it is the internet afterall. [thumbup]

Oh ODH (yet another edit LOL)- I'm not hating, I'm just trying to be realistic in my judegment based on what I'm seeing hence it is just my opinion. [thumbsup]

Sure a lot of criticism from a guy that, self-professed, doesn't get out to fish much. The kid catches more fish than most of us dream about and when you get to the numbers he's doing, you're undoubtedly going to foul hook some. Foul hooking fish is just something that happens. Anybody that says they've never foul hooked a fish is what I would call full of
S [flapper] [flapper]T and or they're not really out there fishing.

We all change our game so why pull up a video that's going on three years old and say " Looky there I caught you!". Pretty darn lame in my book, jumping on him for any fishing technique. Especially when everything he’s doing is legal. It reeks of sour grapes to me and nothing else.

Bodofish, I only posted that one post since fishinfreak replied to me using this language so if there are sour grapes from someone I'd think the tone would speak for itself?:

"Dude WTF we are not F***ing flossing fish or even drift fishing i fish FLOAT AND EGG 100% OF THE TIME IN THE SAMISH we are NOT flossing or even drift fishing EVER for that matter, so no there were no flossed fish i have no idea where you guys are getting this idea i just posted pics of every fish with eggs down their throats WTF is so hard to understand about GETTING FISH TO BITE"

I certainly did not use that tone toward him and even wished him well in his guiding. Still do. And like you say I don't even get out to fish but that's irrelevant to what is being discussed on this topic.

Anyway like I said time to move on. [thumbup] And again, just my opinion.

I remember you have some excellent smoked salmon tips/recipes as I recall [thumbsup]
Good luck on the water.

A complete waste of time & space and a poor attempt to discredit a kid who's trying to get his small business going. Instead of supporting his efforts you sad people contrive conspiracy theories with no foundation, because you can't see a float on an amateur video? What's your motive? Get back to fishing and mind your own business!

OK yes i was heated and exaggerated and said we use float all the time but yea we will free float eggs later in the day when the sun comes out which hardly ever works cause it turns um off the bite, but for the last 2 weeks we have been nothing but float fishing all day long, caught limit with Mike on all float and egg and havent free drifted in weeks,

OK so you going to great lengths to prove im a snagger is OK as long as you use a "good tone"?? Are you CRAZY? you call me out for that im gonna get pissed, it pisses me off because i WORK MY ASS OFF around all these snaggers in the samish to catch fish on eggs and you do this? Real nice dude thanks a lot. Your actually picking out half healed old wounds on fish in my videos and TRYING to say thats the hole i snagged the fish in??? WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU??? DO you even at all understand how much of a A**hole thing that is to do?

From the 2010 videos, we free drifted ALL year, no float, didnt start float until fishing with clients because of less snags, this year we have used floats 95% of the time, and i rarely free drift anymore unless fishing with buddies, not clients, explaining why we have videos of free drifting only, cause we arent with clients. Now personally i would say 9 out of 10 fish i hook free drifting is a biter, like BODO said you fish a hole with 100 fish with no float once and a while your gonna foul one, and 100% of our float fish are obviously biters. Id go ahead and video tape some fish on float and egg but the guys who are worth my time here already know im using eggs and catching fish legit so its not worth the time, thanks for the backup Bodo, bigsky, ODH, Mike ect... tight lines! [thumbsup]

Ok mini online battle over time to move on, heres some pics from the last few days, the warm sunny days make the bite TOUGH early biters then slow slow slow to finish limits, but weve done good still. Fish are starting to turn now, less chromers, but still fun! Again, all fish on float and eggs this week, some sweet swallows, everything on inside mouth this week so couldnt release anything, had to keep some prettty dark fish, but what ya gonna do right?

Had the day off today after a canceled trip last night, so i decided to get some other work done, AFTER a little morning trip to drop a few eggs in the samish, only had till 9am and i had to leave, well a push of fresh fish was moving through this morning, and i ended up taking like 8 casts total in one hole and landed these 2 CHROMERS, was fun!

Metal wrote:Arguing on whether or not you are floating bobber and eggs isn't what I find funny on this thread. I just can't believe that your charging people to fish that ditch. Where is the anaesthetic value there? I always thought that was a major portion of a trip. I'm not implying by any means that your tactics are unethical because I've seen you out a few times on other rivers. And if you can keep people paying you to fish the Samish more power to ya!
Its more for people who are local, dont have much experience, and want to learn how to fish it so they can then themselves go out and catch fish. Also, i never fish in the crowds at the mouth, i have private land all to myself, and honestly bobber egg fishing all alone in the upper samish is A LOT more peaceful than booking a guide trip on the cowlitz with 100 other LOUD sleds, which also is the most heavily guided river anywhere for steelhead. Im oPen now for nooksack and skagit coho but everyone seems to want to get their little kid or wife into their first big king and not deal with any crowds. So yea, im not down shoulder to shoulder guiding at the mouth if thats what you thought
