There are a couple types of fisherpersons. I fish to enjoy ,relax, and learn by watching other fisherpersons. Catching is a bonus.Last year I released more then kept. You learn by watching .

When youre up to your rear end in alligators, its hard to remember that the initial plan was to drain the swamp.

I spent numerous days being skunked, I always left the river with some knowledge for next time. I am not sure if you are a social person or not, but it is worthwhile to talk to those that are catching and if you are polite and respectful, you can get them to talk and maybe even show you a thing or two. So to say you "wasted" a day of fishing, then why even go? :fish:

I agree with Jens...no matter if you are catching or not, not day fishing is a waste. Don't be affraid to throw out some spoons and spinners. I never really trusted or liked spoons until last weekend.......nothing liek throwing out a lure you have never used before and catching a nice steelie on the first cast. Will I ever be able to repeat it....probably not.

So get out there, enjoy the time on the river and get your line wet.

Hey Hooked, that's awesome you landed that Steelhead! Where did you land that bad boy . . . or girl?

Anyways, agreed with everyone here. I have learned a lot from Jens and guess what, I've never met him personally. We've talked on the phone and emailed each other, but he has given me some tips and tricks and it has helped me.

Scott and I have fished together and there's nothing like bringing someone with you to keep you motivated and pumped especially when you're tired after having only one hour of sleep. But we try everything in the bag o' tricks and ask locals what the skinny is. The lokes know better than anyone what's gong on at a river. And yes, be as polite as possible, you'll come away with a little more knowledge and even make some knew friends. Keep your chin up brother, you'll get it.

I didn't word that right i didn't mean waste a day because I love fishing wether I catch a fish or not I'm known to put in a 13 hour day skunked I just wanted to help my learning curve a little to get closer to the bite zone. I go to reiter alot thats where
I caught my first i'm always respectful and social and have made alot of friends out on the sky i'm a reiter regular and have gotten alot of advice from locals I like to ask questions on here to get the basics down then talk with the locals to make some adjustments. another reason I said that was I was laid off from my job so I was fishing everyday but just got a new job so can only fish 2 days a week want to make sure i'm doing it right for best results. Thank you everyone for all your input and advice.

Hooked on Fish-
Depth of leader and bobber really depends on water depth. Up at reiter on the hatchery side your above mentioned depth should work fine. On the highway side though it is quite a bit deeper in spots. I was up there today and started with 7 ft of leader and still wasnt hitting bottom at all. Wa lakes user Gringo Pescador was fishing just down river from me and was fishing about a total of 8-9 feet below bobber and he was walking off the river by about 11 with 2 fish. I have heard from some that it is their preference to get the length out of their leader as opposed to just sliding the bobber further up the main line as it is generally smaller and a better/lighter presentation to the fish. Anyhow hope that helps.

Good luck and Tight lines.
