Rod,
Howdy. What do you want to fish for? And what area of the state?
Don't tell me what "real" fishing is and I won't tell you.

RE:sugestions for resorts
There are actually a lot of places like that in this state...
But what do you mean by small???
to some sporties a 16 footer with a 40 hp outboard is "small"...
to me, "big" is 12' and weighing 220 pounds, small is 7.5 feet and weighing under 100.
If your kind of "small" is the former you might want to check out the resorts in sekui.... gonna be lots of
good fishing close to shore there the last couple of weeks of september..
they are still doing well on humpies there right now and you don't have to go too far out to catch them...
if your idea of "small" is a little, well, smaller then it would be tough to beat mar-don resort at the potholes reservoir for a first time out. Some other good lakes with resorts are wannacut, pearygin, and the conconullys in the okanogan, wapato in chelan, and curlew in a county east of there..... gotta check your timing on those ones though.... the good fishing tends to be limited to a few months out of the year... and I've never stayed at any of them so I can't recommend them one way or the other, I've just noticed the operations as I drove by or while I was fishing the lake...

Fish doesn't smell "fishy" because it's fish. Fish smells "fishy" when it's rotten.

RE:sugestions for resorts
Need to know where you are planning on fishing. In otherwords, where are you from?
Around Spokane there are lots of good places. But, if you're from Seattle it's a lousy idea. Visa Versa is also the case. So, tell us more.

Where you go is less important than how you get there.

I believe Offut lake has a resort on it and I think it's a trout and bass lake. We've never been there but I've seen reports for it on here. Mayfield Lake in Lewis county has a resort and Silver Lake further south has a motel/resort on the lake. They are both pretty nice lakes. Mardon, east of the mountains is nice too and has lots of different fish to fish for. Have a great weekend where ever you go.

MARDON RESORT ON POTHOLES RES. IS THE SPOT IN WASHINGTON. YOU CAN CATCH TROUT TO 5 LBS., PLUS, EVERY OTHER SPECIES EXCEPT SALTWATER ONES. THEY HAVE A GREAT CAMPGROUND, RV SPACES, COTTAGES, AS WELL AS, A OLD MOTEL. THE LAUNCH IS GOOD AND PLENTY OF SPOTS TO MOOR YOUR BOAT, IF YOU DIDNT WANT TO JUST BEACH IT. THEY HAVE A WEBSITE WWW.MARDONRESORT.COM. IM GOING NEXT WEEK-END FOR 4 DAYS OF FISHING AT THIS RESORT, SO, I RECOMMEND IT BECAUSE MY FAMILY AND I GO THERE ALOT.
