I finished a morning of steelheading. I wasn't successful hooking up but hey it was only my 2nd skunk of the summer so I wasn't too bummed out. However, what came next was a true bummer. I pack up and head to my car. I am always thoughtful and careful when putting away my gear but today I must have something else on my mind. I was 15 minutes on my drive back when I look at my seat and notice something missing

I left my rod on the back of my car. I immediately become panicked and head back. I thought I haven't been gone too long so I should be fine. When I get back I notice something laying in the road. I could tell the rod was ran over (lamiglas) however my reel (curado) was still intact. Right as this thought goes through my head, a zoom and crunch. A car runs perfectly over my reel shattering it into unrepairable pieces.

what a morning. I will now go and plead my case to the shimano and lamiglas companies.

awsomely terrible. i feel your pain. i once had an irreplacable flyrod blow out of a boat in tow. it was in a case in two pieces rigged with a,reel. how it blew out i still don't know. then someone saw,me waiting for an opportunity to retrieve it through highway traffic and swerved laughing and crushed it to smithereens. total loss. good luck. lami will probably help you shimani, not so much.

Oh man I cringed reading that. I leaned mine against the passenger side of my rig once, packed up, backed up and heard a funny noise as they fell to the ground, hit the brakes and somehow didn't run over em. Now I have this obsessive/compulsive thing where I pack up, start my rig, get out and walk around it before driving off.
I fish not because I regard fishing as being terribly important, but because I suspect that so many of the other concerns of men are equally unimportant, and not nearly so much fun. ~ John Volker

I feel your pain! Did that once fishing Lake Kai, broke the number one rule, always put the rod away first. I didn't , I saw it slide off the top of my rig, I stopped jumped out and almost got hit by a guy doing about 80 up the street. I saw him aiming for the rod, good thing or he may have got me. But, yep you guessed it, the guy got my rod and a mint vintage Johnson Century special edition. All I could do is cry and kick myself in the........ Oh well it's only a thing, I got a different reel, not quite as nice but still a sweet heart. Still looking to replace the custom Eagle Claw pistol grip rod........ Someday.

The worst part is I can only be mad at myself. I'm really pretty thorough when I pack up too. My wife has already talked me down twice haha. Now I'm filling out forms to Lamiglas and Shimano.

I feel..... I get so wound up about that that kind stuff, I can't see straight. Couple days and it'll be much better.

This only works when I wear my waders, but I make it a point to put all gear, rods, etc in car before my waders come off... I never wear wet waders in my car so this has worked so far..

Yeah thats a total bummer man. When I get back to my car I always put my rods in the car before I take my waders off. Heard to many of the same style story. Sucks having to replace good gear!!!

I was on my way to a camping/ tournament trip at silver lake Cowlitz County. Boat in tow. Had my rod and reel bag in the boat tied up to a seat. Right before the castle rock exit my bag somehow goes flying out of the boat, the wind did pick up but I thought nothing of it, so fastest thing was to try and get off exit and turn around to get it. Light traffic but it landed on the white line kinda on the shoulder. I get turned around get back on I-5 and get close to my bag. Two semis are coming side by side and there's literally nothing I could do. He tried getting over but nowhere really he could go. Tires barely caught the bag but now it flipped a foot more in the road. Another semi coming behind that one also tried to not hit it but nailed it dead center. I watched about 4000 in high end lami and limits rods all my reels were also high end. None under 150 some around 300.. Not one to be a little girl I hit Walmart and picked up a bunch of rods and reels that I still use ha. I swear if I learn a lesson it was the hard way. Lol.
