Shimano Citica 200D

Post by Bisk1tSnGraV » Mon Oct 27, 2008 7:49 am

Looked at the paper this weekend and it is on sale at Joes for 69.99. Any opinions on this reel for me? Thanks!
'course they don't have biscuits and gravy ... but if they did, I bet everyone would eat there.

IMO , I would say that that if your willing to spend 70 bucks on a good baitcaster , dont cheat yourself with this reel when you can get the quantum PT tour for 99.99 .. waaaayy better reel for the buck ... but thats just my two cents :-&

Thanks BBD. That is one of the reasons that I threw my question out here ... shop smarter not harder I think.

The citica is an amazing reel for that price, compared to anything is the original price range. But, like BBD said, that Quantum is supposed to be amazing. I ordered on yesterday for $99. Most evryone is getting rid of thier inventory for the 2009 models, so look at other makers also. But yes, the Citica is great

The Citica is a great reel. Only used the Energy at the wa lakes bbq, but I was wishing I had ordered one after trying it. Its a little smaller than the Citica I believe.

The Citica's regular price was $100+, about the same price as the Quantum (maybe a bit more).

Shimano makes good products. The consensus is that the Citica is basically a souped-up version of the old-style (green) Curado.

I actually saw that ad in the paper too, and was thinking of getting it.

For the Quantum, I saw about a month ago that Big 5 had that reel (or PT or Energy) on clearance. Regular price was something like $160, and they were selling it for $50 bucks or so.

What all this means is that the low price doesn't indicate that the reel(s) are low quality. The stores are just clearing out last year's stock. So the phrase, "you get what you pay for" and so buy the more expensive reel to get the better quality, does not really apply. IMHO

The PT Energy is normally $190, the PT Tour Edition is normally $230. Citica is normally $120.

The PT Energy is the best reel ive used. I like them better that the Curado or Abu Revo series, which is awesome also. Any way you go, they are all good, but getting a $230 reel for $99 is sweet in my eyes.

:monkey: Down bait monkey... DOWN! :monkey:

I have the Shimano Citica and the PT Energy. I am not unhappy with either, but I wish I had two of the quantum reels instead. The PT Tour for $99 seems like one heck of an upgrade for $30. However, both are great reels.

That is what I am starting to think as well. Seems to be a much better reel for just a little more investment.

Is it the Citica D or E? If it is the E, I am going to go there right now. To let everyone know, IMHO, this reel is worth every penny at even full price, so at $70.00, that is a steel and a half!!!!!!

Update

I just called Joes and it is the D and only in the 200 size. I imagine that it weighs about the same as the Quantum.

I don't doubt Dez's recommendation one bit, but at $70.00, the Citica D is very attractive. The $20 you save can buy you the line and a few lures.:bigsmurf:

Biskit,

Yep, you're right. It is definitely a steal and a half. Will this be your first baitcast reel? If so, I can say with reasonable certainty that you will learn very quickly with this reel. I can teach you in 10 minutes flat. :)

Right now I have a Shakespeare Dimension that I had gotten earlier in the year ... but feel I may need a second one now.

With everyone's advice I opted to wait for a little bit. Cabelas had the Quantum tour PT for a great price but a left hand retrieve and I would rather have a right like the Shakespeare Dimension i already have. So I kept a watchful eye on E-Bay and won the bid last night for $80.50 including shipping for my new Quantum Tour PT Burner ... can't wait until it makes its way to the door step!!!

Nice purchase Bisk1 ,

You do realize that the "burner" is a 7:1 ratio ... fast moving .. The only reason im asking is because the other reel you looked at didnt have the same ratio ..

But never the less , Good Buy and you will like those PT'S ....

BBD,

I did see that it is a 7:1. The other that I was initially looking at was a lower ratio but I was just beginning to look for a new or another baitcaster. The one I currently have is 6.3:1. After more research and listening to the information given by all of you guys, so instead of having two the same I thought this would be a good direction for me to add to the arsenal.
