Skagit River boat launches

Post by Bryce » Tue Jun 16, 2015 12:44 pm

Hi, I'm planning on fishing the Skagit River for sockeye in the next few days. I've never fished the Skagit and I was wondering where I could find a boat launch.

I would also appreciate any tips on what to catch sockeye on in the river. I've done well at Baker Lake so I have an idea of what to use, but any extra experience helps :)

Every public launch in the state and many private ones as well.

The one I use most is the Gardner road launch. http://burlingtonwa.gov/index.aspx?NID=225
The other one lower down in Mt Vernon is the Edgewater park launch. http://www.mountvernonwa.gov/Facilities ... Details/10 The gear and techniques used in the skagit are not the same as on Baker. Check out the guide that Steelheadin360 wrote that goes through the typical setups used for Skagit sockeye. http://www.northwestfishingreports.com/ ... 15&t=21825

Love the watercruiser map. Is there any map that would show re-fueling areas? I only have a 130 mile range

It shows some of them - but they are not always up to date. This is the Gig Harbor area and it shows two fuel docks. Last time I checked there was only one still working. It used to be you could click on the icon and get contact info. Now almost all the links are dead except for the launch ramp links. It usually gives the name, so you can often Google it and find a contact number to call and see if they are still open, fuel grades, prices etc.

I'm planning on going up to the Skagit this Friday (6/20). I have an 8.5 foot zodiac type inflatable boat that I take out on the sound. I heard there is strong undercurrent on the river. Is it safe enough from Edgewater Park up to Hart Island with that kind of boat? I don't plan to fish from the boat, just get to a nice sand bar.
