who makes there own soft plastics???

Post by needs2hunt » Sun Jan 05, 2014 10:25 pm

We are just starting to make our own hand poured plastics... We went though a bunch of store bought packages this last year and just think it's gonna be cheaper in the long run...

still got alot to learn ... anybody willing to give any pointers???

right now sticking with hand pouring... might go injection molds farther down the line... may even make a couple of our own custom baits... something the fish haven't seen...

just wondering how many guys are out there doing this... :-" :-" :-"

My partner and I have been pouring plastics for over a year now. tried to make a business of it but its too dang time consuming to be able to pour baits, have free time to fun fish and fish tournaments so now its all pouring for personal use same with jig tying.

We don't plan on doing this as a business... just gonna do this for ourselves...

we got a small starter kit for Xmas...
4 molds
2 colors,
2 glitters
and just a pint of plastisol ... already used all that up on the first day

and bought all the little things to get started...
using a microwave for heating,,, since we are just hand pouring we use a couple of pyrex measuring cups....

would like some ideas on what plastisol to try different colors that seem to work for the NW...
as most everything i read on line is based towards the southern part of the country...

TIA...

I pour a few different soft plastics, I have a few hand pour molds and a two injections molds.
I do it for fun and my own use, and I swap with a brother-in-law in Michigan.

I use mostly Caney Creek stuff (http://www.caneycreekmolds.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;), they have a ton of info on everything for pouring there too.

I really like natural colors with bright/neon tips/accents. I have some of the glow powder but I haven't poured anything since I got it.

The best plastisol I've used is the Caney Creek regular, it's pretty soft but still holds up. I've only tried a few others though.

It also repours better than the other brands I've tried and it has a neat action.

Been doin' it and designing for decades Do you have specific questions? Jann's Netcraft and Barlowes are good sources, as well as those above.

We should start a swap thread, I would be interested in seeing what everyone is pouring. Might motivate me to do more of this.

I don't pour baits anymore but I did in the past. I have literally poured 1000's of baits so feel free to shoot me any questions you might have. I would be more than happy to help out if I can.
