Can you guess what this is?

Post by Mossy » Thu Sep 18, 2008 10:18 pm

This was on another site, been trying to figure out what it is since April. There has been guesses from a roofing tool to a horseshoe tool. Anybody have any idea as to what it is?

that was guessed a few times but an older farmer said he's never seen anything like that for shoeing. If you blow the picture up you can see Japan engraved on it if that helps anyone. Thinking about contacting antique roadshow!

Looks like you got a nice little torture device there.

LOL! wicked set of brass knuckles, huh?

that is an interesting device, definitely got my curiosity. it's a pry bar of some sort, isn't the front like the claws of a hammer? i would guess that the spikes give you a good bite into whatever you're prying against, but i can't figure out why they would curve toward the hand instead of away, to give you a good rocking motion worth of leverage.

i think the roofing tool is a good guess, the spikes might get intended to get a good bite while you're working on a (possibly very) steep slope.

Looks like an old carpet tool.

If you're looking to sell it, I could use it for a photoshoot I have coming up soon. Let me know. I'm always buying "devices" like this that could be used for fetish shoots.

you know, i was thinking the same thing. i thought it might be an old carpet stretcher, but i would have thought the spikes would be angled and i couldnt figure out why it'd have a pry tool on one end.

argh! i'm one of those guys who if you say "what was that one movie where that one guy said ____?" and i can't get it out of my head until i figure it out.

so what if this thing is a hole puncher of some sort? those four points are evenly spaced awls and you use the front-end to hook under something for leverage and an accurate placement of the four holes. they're don't look very sharp like a traditional awl, but depending on what they were intended to pierce they might not have to be. could have been used for upholstery work?

Fetish shoots.....um, what are you mixed up in Aaron? :-" It's not mine but I will see if I can get you in touch with the source.
All good guesses, carpet tool, upholstery tool, I thought it might be a part of a tool or a device, maybe it latches on to something or a leather tool.
It's bugging me too, hopefully someone can figure it out

I'm a photographer. Photographers have to sell pictures. And there are some seriously bent and twisted people out there with lots of money to spare on pictures, let me tell you ;)

Yeah, please let me know if you can find the source.

To me I'd say a Horseshoeing tool also.Looks like a nail prier(sp) with combs to clean under the hoof area. There are horses in Japan if I remember correctly.

Not sure what it is, but I am sure I wouldn't like to see it in my dentist's office.

 I'm thinking a tool to help tie up a carpet roll. It looks like it holds something while taking out a pin or nail. Keeping something from unraveling. It would easier to guess if it wasn't a left handed tool!!!#-o

Fly Fishing is the art of attaching a fake bug to a line and relying on the appropriate manipulation of the rod to deceive the fish into eating a sharp steel hook covered with feathers and fur.

This is the site where the other forum found the answer, not sure if it's the real deal, but it looks like it's been been around the net with people trying to figure out what it is.
