reel repair

Post by The Quadfather » Mon Jun 18, 2012 11:43 am

Alright, i need to break down and take some reels in for repair. Spinning reels and level wind. I am in seattle. The go-to place used to be john's sporting goods in everett. Turns out they dont service reels anymore.
Does anybody have someone out there that they have used?

I dont want to order schematics, and i dont want to do it myself. I have 4-5 reels that need work.
i had heard that Linc's tackleon Ranier might do this sort of thing.

Yes I believe they do. That's a bummer that John's doesn't do it anymore, they did a nice job for a lot of people. It seems everytime I find someone that can do a nice job on my reels, they quit. Is it fixing reels in general? The other problem I've had is getting them back. I used OE's guy (doesn't do reels anymore) once and he had my reel for three months. I had to start calling him every day, finally got it back but what a pain.... Good luck Q!!!!

Though I have never used them myself, I have heard many people talk up Link's in the past.

That sucks about Johns Sporting Goods, I use to take them for service all the time.

Try googling on how to do it yourself.

Quad, check with Outdoor Emporium again. John Calvo, aka slimyslab, mentioned to me that he may start working on reels for them.

They had a guy named John that was coincidentally a guide that did repairs for them in the past. I sent my reel to him via OE and it came back in a week with "changed my mind, don't really want to service reels", something tells me the guiding picked up, in any case the same net result...... That was a several years ago.

Just called Anglers choice. They suggested Hook Line and Sinker and John's Sporting goods. Just goes to show you how up to date his list is!

Called Avid Angler's in Lake forest Park. They only send back to manufacturer if a fly reel they sell.

Called Ted's Sporting goods. They said Mahamad got called back to Boeing and that was the reel repair guy for John's in Everett. But suggested to only use the Manufacturer for repairs, since they now there reels.

Good Luck. I used to drop reels and Downriggers off at John's. Now what?

Just off the phone with Trey at John's Sporting goods. Mahomid was promised the reel repair business if and when he left John's for Boeing. You can drop off your reels at John's and Mahomid will come get them. Or call him direct at (425) 259-1811.

Trey will take a reel home to repair if it is a Shimano, Penn, or Abu Garcia and only if a LEVEL WIND REEL of the 3 brands mentioned. Trey won't touch a spinning reel needing repairs.
