Great information. Stuff I'd never heard of. I bookmarked that page in my 'boats' and 'fishing' favorites/bookmarks folders.

As a parent of young children, this is a great reminder and awareness article for the upcoming summer.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Swimming is super dangerous, especially when it's not in a pool. It's important for kids to learn how to swim, but I don't know how I feel about doing it for fun. I've come close when I was a kid to drowning and I'm a super strong swimmer, and reading that article just makes my skin crawl. Be careful people! And if you're kids are in the water, your job is to watch them the whole time. Don't take your eyes off them for a second. Ever. Please.
Re: Drowning Doesn't Look Like Drowning... article
The entire article was read in amazement. It is at times like this I wish TV would not exaggerate the act of drowning. Beyond what it actually is. I am guilty of only recognizing, the TV version. Not what is real! Thanks for the heads up Mark.
Ever just sit and watch the news anchors deliver the news, instead of listening to what is reported? The delivery of information is fast. Each new story is delivered by two alternating anchor's, of opposite sex. I look over at the wife, and she is like in a trans. It reminds me of infomercial or shopping channel type delivery. Quick, constant, exaggerated, vague information. Then the drama music when there is a subject change, like the stock market recap. Channel 7 is the worst!! It is the closing bell for the stock market.........ding....ding.....ding.....ding.....ding.....ding......ding. All news channels do it. I find it nauseating, and therefore hard to watch, so I don't. Add to that the cliff hanger that is delivered before a commercial break: "Stay tuned, after the break. Why the kid picked his nose and what he did with the booger"!!
Seriously, embarrassed that s**t works on people.

The tv news USED to be interesting-----and TRUTHFULL! Not anymore. I used to like watching the news. I usually hate watching it these days.

I'm with you on that Tom, Nate and MotoBoat. I'm quite behind the times when it comes to news these days. I do enjoy alternatives, gCaptain is one of many specialized sources available today that interests me. You're welcome!Amx wrote:The tv news USED to be interesting-----and TRUTHFULL! Not anymore. I forwarded this, emailed this and shared this.
I reflect one time when I almost drowned. In a pool, just a few yards from my parents. Thought I was good enough to cross the pool. Never got the chance to make a ruckas, just sank. Thank god dad saw and saved me.
"750 children who will drown next year, about 375 of them will do so within 25 yards of a parent or other adult. In ten percent of those drownings, the adult will actually watch them do it, having no idea it is happening (source: CDC). "

I'm with you on this Rich. Reading the article brought me back to a time when I was a very little kid. I was in the hotel pool with my parents and I got to deep... sank over my head and couldn't move. Luckily the life guard was there to grab me. My parents had no idea I was in trouble.Rich McVey wrote:I reflect one time when I almost drowned. In a pool, just a few yards from my parents. Thought I was good enough to cross the pool.
