So I got my year kicked off finally today with my first pikey's of the year. I haven't been able to fish with my boat due to the weather. but I got out today in a new friends boat. We got 9 total between the 3 of us in the boat today and I got 4 of them. No big ones all in the 4 to 7 lb range, but its a start.

Rick, somebody sent me a screenshot of your face book post about a couple of giants that had been caught recently. Any more news on them?

This was my first fish of the year a big fat bass that hit my 160mm Kanata perch jerkbait at Hayden on about the 5th of Jan. We were pike fishing but this was the only bite. She was 6.6 lbs 23" long.

So I managed to get 5 more pike in all this rain we been having and it has been a very tuff bite, but I'm happy it's rain and not snow. I haven't been able to find any big fish yet as the guy I'm fishing with has very poor electronics on his boat, so we are almost fishing blind. I guess we are lucky to find any fish with what we are working with. I keep hoping I can get my buddy with the new boat (and an awesome Lowrance self mapping system side imaging sonar unit) to take me out there, so I can actually learn a bit of what's out there and some better spots to fish. So here is one of the five fish I got, they have all been between 3 to 5 lbs. Although I did hook up on one really nice fish but for whatever reason the hook pulled out. Still catching them mainly on flutter spoons, but after throwing spoons and other baits for about 2 hours without any fish landed I put on a spinnerbait with a huge polished cop[per blade(about a #9) I made myself and slow rolling it in 20+ feet of water I manged to get my first fish of the day. The fishing picked up some and we got the rest on the flutter spoons. I must say this new spoon I found I'm very impressed with. I think it will be knocking them dead this spring as well so can't wait to fish it in my monster fish spot.

Nice fish! I hope you don't catch them all before I can buy an Idaho license. They suspended non resident license sales the day before I was planning to get mine bought.

Here is the homemade abortion of a fly I got this pike on
This is made from a wine bottle cork, a jig hook that I wrapped some wire around it that I put the treble hook on, some pencil lead and flashabou and fake fur.
I asked the guys at the local fly shop if they wanted me to come in a teach a class on how to make this gem.
They say no, they were good. lol

So fishing has been pretty slow in all the spots I have found this so far this year. The lake levels are still too low in my normal spots. I did good for about a week in one spot and the water came up about a foot and it seamed like the fish just disappeared. I managed a few small fish each trip, but the numbers and size were gone. Don't really understand that one, anyway I added 5 more fish to the total since my last post. I did loose a really nice one that I forgot to tighten my FG knot before I fished it. So lost a nice fish that was 15lb plus and my favorite custom painted Johnson spoon.

I made it out for a couple more trips to chase pikeys and I cant say I sleighed em but I got a few nice ones. My biggest was last Tuesday I got this 37 1/2" that was close to 20lbs but not quite there, about 16/17 lbs. I got 2 this trip and one a trip before that and 3 more yesterday for a total of 6 more fish on the year. Fishing has been very tuff over here this year, as there is literally a chit load of deadbaiters on every spot they can find. I've seen 40 guys in 1 block of shore line. With everybody off work their are destroying the pike fishery. That and the A-holes at F&G are gillnetting the crap out of the lake. The lake has been lower then it normally is this time of year also so it seams like all the goverment is out to ruin my fishing . I still can't fish some of my best spots due to the low water. So not sure it's going to be a very good pike year.

I'm finally on the board!! YAY. Washington fishing opened back up on May 5th so I headed out to get things started. I managed one dink pike while jigging for bass. Went out again on the 7th and got no pike. I made it back out this past Saturday and finally found a few. I got 5 quality pike on the day, bringing my total to 6 for the year. Idaho started allowing non resident license sales on saturday so things should take off for me soon.
Total pike: 6
Over 10: 5
Over 25lbs.: 1
