Re: Several Puget Sound-area freshwater fisheries Closed
Went to Ted's Sport Center in Lynnwood yesterday after stepping on and successfully breaking my Kokanee rod...
... one day after saying to people there that because of river/sound closures the odds of seeing me were going to be much less.
Anyways at least 3 calls from customers asking about the closures and it sounded like they were animated and angry etc and wanting someone to vent their frustrations at. Mike said well you can go to Westport and some of the other areas. And I'm sure he's heard this one a ton already.... "true but I don't fish salt anywhere but areas 8-2, 9, and 10. The only reason I purchased the darned Salt license was because somebody that is on the board assured me that we would have some sort of season in 9 and 10.
If they are truly worried about the Wild Coho numbers then close the Puget sound area mid August to October. We still would have a limited Chinook season and maybe the imprint hatchery Coho. Allow the piers to stay open (heck the Edmonds Pier didn't see it's first legal King last year until Mid July last year). And there is no way those piers are doing that much "damage" number wise because the fish have to swim close enough as is. And sticking with Edmonds I can see the complaints start up again when the imprint coho return and can't be caught by anybody and don't go to a river system and start swimming in the marina and eventually die.
It's all politics on both sides and I'm afraid that the state politicians and certain tribal members likely don't have a clue about what is really going and and money may have some part in all things happening.
Wishing I had held to my original position to not get the license until the cement had been poured and set as far as the season was concerned.

Flying carp, polluted water, and lots of invasive species? It's better here. fewer people and fewer boats in Washington.
