Outside the Edmonds Marina is really good early on. The Lings are smart here so use live bait and thinner leaders. They have become smarter over the years. Get right up close to the Edmonds Marina breakwater and use live bait (shinner perch) or go with darts. This is a very good area. I imagine other people have some great areas, too.

do u know of any good places inside elliot bay

Some people say that elliot bay has lings, I don't know too much about where in elliot bay to find lings. Lings like rocky territory, so they can ambush prey and because of this, often times where you find lings you are going to lose a lot of lures/jigs.

I haven't heard of a ton of areas in Elliot Bay and it may be hard to get someone to spill their location....Lings get thinned out quickly when the season opens because they all pretty much sit on the same spot all year...It would be in your best interest to get a good topo map that shows artificial reefs and rocky bottom contours, and trying to figure out some spots they may be.

Jigs, live flounder/bullhead, big artificial squid, big herring....some guys like trolling the bottom for them. Big flashers and a long leader to a big squid or herring.

i have really never caught bullhead which is suprising

I like cheap jigs cause they are cheap (get ones as cheap as possible) and it also helps keep them from biting off the line with their teeth cause they get hooked in the mouth and they only get their teeth on the jig.

so do u usually do pretty well for lings
are u talking about like a jig and scampi set up
or what are the other types of cheap jigs

If I were you I wouldn't eat any bottom-fish out of eliot bay.

Derick i would normally agree with u but after reviewing the eating regulations and warnings in the rules pamphlet they only say to not eat rockfish or flounder really they say nothing about ling cod.
Plus i will most likely be fishing near the outskirts of elliot bay not in the main industrial area

Just cheap jigs. Anything that is bright and they can see. They have cheap ones that are like a metallic finish and have a big treble on them.

The earlier the season the better. They get thinned out quickly...

yeah me and my dad were gonna hit it up on opening day and fish with jigs such as darts and scapi's and such are u talking maybe like a chrome buzz bomb or something like that. Do u happen to have a product name for the cheap jigs you are talking about.

Cutthroat killer so are darts pretty good at getting the lings at edmonds. Does anyone have success using jigs and scampi's there or anything else

That's true. I wouldn't eat anything out of Elliot Bay...no tidal flow at all...only thing I'd eat out of there would be migrating salmon headed up the Duamish River system. Also, if you want to hook huge lings, the banks like Dallas, Partridge, and Hein are stellar for lings...look for rocky structure. You will loose ample gear, but who cares. Like other people said, use cheap gear, the Lings don't care. I use simple lead bars with treble hooks. My largest ling hooked and boated went 35.5 pounds out of Neah Bay, my brother took a 37 at Green Rock, Port Hardy, and we've hooked 40's at Telegraph Cove all the time on vacations...right outside the marina's breakwater. Usually we'd hook a nice 1-2lb bass and then the Ling would clamp on for the ride to the top...I would use jigs and live bait. Trolling is a little more risky in the sense you could lose a ton of balls and mangle your downrigger wire, but whatever you choose, make sure you get on some structure...otherwise the point is probably mute. I would highly recommend British Columbia as great Ling territory. They proliferate like mad up there. I hooked a nice 25 pounder back in Knight Inlet, B.C. and they are easy to pick up on banks like George Bank off Malcolm Island. Also, huge halibut prey in these waters so Stubbs Island is a good area to fish, but it is closed, and has been closed for some years now to fishing. Halibut come in at Telegraph Cove Marina in the 100's, and Lings well over the 35 mark. I would book a trip up to Telegraph Cove Marina...one of the best vacations you'll ever take. Like Derrick-k said, I wouldn't eat anything out of Elliot Bay that is a bottom dwelling fish...I even limit my consumption of cutthroat trout out of LW due to high levels of toxins...i.e. PCB's.

Dude, fishingmachine, it's not that hard bro. YES, jigs are very good like I just said above. Use JIGS or LIVE BAIT. You'll do well, good luck! A lead bar with a treble hook looks just like it sounds. It's a long stick of lead with a treble hook at its base. It works VERY WELL.

They literally will eat anything. It's all about finding them. Jigs with plastic curly tails, metal jigs, live bait, frozen herring. If you find them, they'll usually hit whatever you put in their face. Some people literally make their own jigs outta like 1/2 inch copper piping, make em about 6 inches long and then fill em up with lead or cement, and have a hook on one end and an eye to tie their line to.

You are correct, this is a diving sanctuary I believe, I don't think you can fish it...someone with the rules book could help me out here...I don't fish the sound anymore...too many regs, and not enough fish. I'm a fan of the open ocean, and Queen Charolette Sound...
