Northwest Fishing Reports

So The Thumb is being severely curtailed on his fishing this year due to the twin's birth. Im trying to figure out a way to get some halibut in the freezer because he is missing out on his normal week-long Alaska trip in the spring for the big flatties.

Is anyone willing to let an eastsider know where some fish are? I have fished salmon in the San Juans, but have not tried for bottomfish other than rockfish in the SJ/PS area. We only get the opportunity to head over once a year, and will not be pilfering fish off your beloved spot for months on end. The vessel is a 21' Campion (similar to a striper/trophy).

If you don't want to say anything in the thread ( I know how I am about spots, so I can understand if others are protective), PM me. This info will be used in any way you are comfortable, from open forum to completely private, your call. I just know that he has provided my wife and I with halibut over the past year, and I want to get him out on the water for 2 days to put a few chunks of meat back in his freezer.

In return, Id be more than happy to take you out on our local lake for warmwater species (Bass, perch, crappie, tench, carp, peamouth, occasionally salmon and I heard a couple sturgeon, but havent caught one yet).

im not sure about locally, but, we have 7 guys (4 from spokane), going to ilwaco 1st week in may for the opener (the season is actually only a couple of weeks long due to catch-quota's), if your still interested G?? i got your pm awhile back, but, am just starting to get together the rates/arangements. we charter (2-3 hours out) for the "big" halibut, although, not even close to the sizes in alaska, at o-dark forty, then take out our smaller boats for the rockfish (10 is the limit), in the afternoon.im trying to keep it under $200 a head for 2 halibut trips and camping (normally $150+ per trip, not including camping). let me know if interested. im trying to have total rates by march 1st.

places like Mutiny Bay can be really good...along with Partridge, Hein, and Dallas Bank.

Definately. Hein is a great place to fish, especially early in the season along with 31-36. These humps and bumps get fished hard, but when you find the baitfish on them in early Spring and the wind eases, get ready for some major hits!

Cutthroat, Ill get my charts out and nose around a bit in those spots. Im guessing they like high spots and low spots, as long as it isnt sloped.

I am rather interested in this hali trip to Ilwaco, but The Thumb regrettably won't be able to attend (something about twins...)

That is a MONSTER of a perch! Wow! Yeah, they like ridges, plateaus, depressions, humps, shoals, etc. I've caught halibut in 40' of water jigging with darts and have caught them in 500 feet of water with 4 pounds of weight...it all varies. Good luck!

Lets not forget area 31-36, Freshwater Bay, and Hein Bank, both reached from Port Angeles. The fishing can be good at times, slow other times, but it is closer to the Seattle area if that's an issue. I have caught a few at 31-36 over the years (about six miles due northeast of PA). Freshwater Bay is 4-5 miles due west of PA.
