Salt and river reports sparse!

Post by Dave » Wed Sep 05, 2007 10:32 pm

I thought I would comment on the lack of reports submitted by salt and river anglers. Maybe it’s the name of the site, Washington “LAKES”.com that keeps these anglers away. I know that there are tons of members and you don’t even have to be a member to submit a report. I just wish those who view this site and fish the rivers and salt would submit their reports so we can all stay informed. Just a thought. Good luck all.

The title "WashingtonLakes" does steer people in that direction. I noted the other day a bunch of river reports, more than lakes (first time). Those sections will grow but never the way the lakes are. Heck, we only added rivers a couple months ago. Also, I think that some people don't realize those tabs on the front page report box go to the different sections of reports. The default (as it should be) is lake reports.

I have noticed a decline in lake reports. I don't know why that is. Bad day fishing (no catches) so they don't want to report?

Since the saltwater and river reports are kinda new only a few are reporting? Since Sept 1 I have switched to river fishing. I didn't buy a saltwater license so I don't fish there. But I do read the reports. It took me alittle bit to find the other tabs even though they are right in front of me. Wahingtonlakes may be misleading but once a person looks into it they can see that it is all of Washignton fishing. It is a good site!

I don't participate there but I also read at gamfishin.com. They don't have many fishing reports.

It may be like church - they say that only 20% participate and 80% just sit in a pew.
Look for Wannafish A Lure on FaceBook

He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.

I've tried posting a handful of river reports, only to have a "This page has gone missing" screen come up????

Hey Mike, I finally had one of my reports go through the other day. It was on the Skykomish River. If you remember I posted my problem on another thread a week or two ago. So, no more worries on them not going through. Hopefully.

yup, the river reports were a little buggy earlier. Aaron has been working behind the sceens on the coding.

As to less lake reports?? We are up from last year. In Aug we had 210 vrs 189 last year. The lake reports will begin declining until they pick up again next March. It's a normal cycle.

As to participation - I'd say it's more like 2%. Seriously, we have around 30-35,000 unique users per month and post 210 reports? I'd love to see 1,000 reports a month. But I still remember the dawn of WashingtonLakes.com, when I would go fishing to make sure there would be a new report on the site! That was back when 5 reports in one day was huge, now it's a slow day. Just stick around for the next ten years, you'll be amazed where we will be. (my prediction) #-o

I used to come to this site a lot back in about 2002 or so and sorry to say it was terrible. It had to many negative bad people on it that were obviously not interested in learning from others and this didn't seem to be as controlled as it is now. Great site Mike and Aaron.

mallard83,

??? We didn't even have a Forum in 2002, it was Piscatorial Pursuits, and it was hardly used.

And the reports were edited by me, one at a time, didn't allow much junk to slip through. Are you sure you're talking about this site?

In any case, glad you're back and enjoying it.

I believe it was Piscatorial Pursuits that I used to go to and I remember a lot of negative stuff on there. But anyways, thanks Mike, I plan on enjoying this site for years to come.

Mallard:
Yes PP can be a little rough at times. Guys with big egos, guys using the forum as a means of communication rather then information, and guys trying to long arm fish and just pick stupid little fights. Threads get blocked over there quite a bit. I'm a member of it, have about 1500 posts but don't go under the same name. It's a great site with a lot of information, at times a little too many personal reports and too much bickering instead of useful information, but a good forum nonetheless. Mainly a saltwater/river crowd.

I have not been to this site for a long time because I was tired of all of the childish B.S. If it has changed I may give it a try though because I river fish a lot and it may be good source.

Yea there is some stupid stuff circling the site, but it's definetely a "tolerable" amount and it's a great source for the salmon/steelhead crowd...
