Are the pinks in thick yet?

Post by Dave » Mon Aug 20, 2007 2:20 pm

I was wondering if anyone has been out to Humpy Hollow in the last day or so? If so, are the pinks in thick yet? I know Mike Carey went out on the 18th and reports fishing was slow. I just haven't seen any other reports posted. Thanks all.

I dont have any info on humpy hollow, but from what I have seen its been kind of streaky for the pinks a little south. Some mornings you can see pinks all over the duwamish, 8 hours later nothing. Or from one day to the next will be like that too. Also a stretch will be slammed with pinks but a 1/4 mile down river will have no fish. Friday the duwamish was kicking out pinks all day. I ( a rookie pink fisherman and river fisherman, who is just having terrible luck at that lol) even caught a couple pinks on friday and talked to a man who caught 30 pinks from the spokane street pier on friday. But on saturday I got skunked and the same man who caught 30 only caught 10 on saturday (yeah right "only"). Then on sunday I got skunked in Seattle and Tacoma. My buddys went out today and also got skunked. See this is all new to me so I dont know if this is how it works or not. But I am definitely not seeing much consistency. I could understand if I was just getting skunked, but one day I will see 200 or 300 pinks swimming an arms length away or going airborne and then the next seeing 2 or 3 jump or even none sometimes. So hopefully they will get thicker yet

Spotty still out in the salt. Had it where I'll go through a school and I get a double header (oddly enough on like green coyote spoons or coho killers....not pink salmon stuff) and then I won't get another Pink all day....They are coming in in big schools it seems, some nights I've been fishing off the beaches on the west side of Whidbey Island, it's good fishing, other times, not a single fish will be landed for 40+ anglers...
Don't chase reports...Be the report others chase....

Pinks are like this, especially in the rivers. They are more school oriented than other salmon and will come in spurts. And in the rivers they are constantly on the move even in low clear water. Until the main run gets here expect the fishing to be spotty with random pods of pinks moving through. Once the main run gets here though they will be everywhere in the system, not just here and there. Good luck.

Thanks for the replies. I'll be out there (humpy hollow) this Friday and Saturday at first light. Hopefully the pink numbers will be high and fishing will be consistent. Curious to know if they are catching pinks at Deception Pass State Park beach. Good Luck All...
