Fishing the bottom side of the Hood Canal bridge
I don't know why I never thought to put this one to this group before. Up until the construction work of about 2 years ago, I used to fish the bottom side of the Hood Canal bridge. (This was totaly legit) There was a walkway that went down under where the cars drive and it opened up to an area that was equal in size to the driving portion of the bridge, (at least going out from the shore about 600' This was an awesome resource for many reasons, not to mention that depending on the speed of the tide, you could literaly troll a dodger from sitting on the dock. There was that much current. Obviously slack tide was the best time to fish for bottom fish.
Is it still open?? They've mucked up the parking area so much, and I don't see anyone walking down there anymore.
Fishnislife...... this is in your neck of the woods.

Unforunatley the last time I went there a few months ago it was locked tighter than Fort Knox.Wich was very depressing since I was a kid growing up in North Kitsap it was a great place for crabbing and all kinds of fishing. If anyone else knows any diffrent please let me all of us know because this was a place of alot of my memories and I would love to pass some of these on to my nephew, because there is a lack of positive of things for kids kids to do now a days.

Just to pass on.... if you go to the park which is located about 500 ft. north of the bridge. (that's the turn off) They have done a little work in there, they replaced their dock with a larger dock. This is primarily a boat launch. However the dock is quite a bit bigger than the small one that was there. I didn't see any "No fishing" signs of the dock as of yet. But if the boat traffic is light, it would be a place to drop your line in.
Thanks for the reply on the Hood C. bridge deal,,,, those of you who know, Gawt Darn! That was the ultimate fishing experience for a person with no boat.

I fished there once as a kid. A shame that can't re-open it...
RE:Fishing the bottom side of the Hood Canal bridge
Yeah I think part of the reason is because people weren't cleaning up after themselves and people were leaving the fish and starfish and such there instead of throwing them back in the water.

Ya, that has been closed for a while now. I think it was more dangerous than good. And like jbball50 said, a ton of trash was left there all the time. I fished down there a lot and saw a bunch of big fish caught there. I too wish they would re-open it but I don't think it's going to happen.
Sorry Chris, but you can still come over and we can fish the salt somewhere else. :compress:
