JT,

It really depends on what marine area you are in. Get a copy of the regs and it will help you out tremendously. As an example though, if go to Marine Area 9 in your regs book, the first page will be a map of the area. This shows you the boundaries of that area, so the rules set for 9 are only applicable within those set boundaries.

Next page will have a table with three columns: first column is "Species," second column is "Season," and the third column is "Additional Rules." You will see that right now under Salmon, the season that is currently applicable is July 16th - August 15th. It says that the minimum size on Chinook is 22" and that the limit is 2 (combined) plus 2 additional pinks. This means that you can keep 2 salmon that aren't pinks (i.e. slivers, kings) plus two pinks. There are a couple other rules to note though. No wild chinook or any chum can be kept, or even handled; meaning if it's a chinook with an adipose fin, you can't take it out of the water, and if it's a chum, same thing. Also, you have to use single point barbless hooks.

That's basically how you read the regs for each marine area. Make sure you are looking at the right marine area that you plan on fishing, then make sure when you are looking at that area that you are looking at the right species, then make sure you are in the right season (i.e. you have your dates right), then make sure you understand all of the addtional rules. Apply this strategy to the area you plan on fishing and you should be good to go. I hope this makes sense (sorry for being so long-winded).
