Area 11 tuna???

Post by gpc » Mon Aug 13, 2007 11:44 pm

This is probably a very stupid question but are they there. I saw that they are listed in the regs under area 11. Is this just something they have to list? Like a "just in case sort of thing".

Good question. It may just be the WDFW doing a little CYA just any case someone catches one. I have never heard of anyone catching tuna in the Sound.

I've never seen anyone catch one in area 11 but I've heard rumors of some being caught right outside of Redondo.

Interesting reports. However I dont know how much I believe them though. It would be nice to switch it up and nab a tuna or 2 out in the sound though. Thanks for the report info.

gpc i think you should go out with a huge bucket of bait and start chumming, and just see if anything comes up other than the dogfish. Take your camera too, that would be great!! I went out last Sunday there at Redondo hoping for a last chance salmon and only got dogfish. We ended up bottomfishing and getting some nice sole and flounder(sand dab?) from the south end of Vashon Is. I also figured out why there is a 1 fish limit on seabass, got one that was only about 9in. Had fun and took home some sole! (14-16")

Yeah thats not a bad idea, after salmon season that might be worth a shot. But it does sound sort of like a wild goose chase to me LOL. Oh I know what you mean about all the dogfish, they are everywhere, but I wont lie if I am not catching any salmon I will drop my line down to the bottom just to get some action LOL. Nothing wrong with bringing home sole either, also do flounder and sand dab differ in any way?

I don't think so. on the east coast i caught what everyone called flounder (eyes on the left) and as i remember it they looked exactly the same as the "sanddab" i got on Sunday. only here in the WA book they list them as sanddab. i believe they are the same.

The Tacoma paper has printed many stupid things since the new outdoor guy started. (don't know if this is what someone is referring to) One of them was about tuna, another about steelheading being red hot in the south sound. They have also posted good reports in several areas that were not open at the time...

Its been very clear that he is a total begginer to fishing. You would think that they would want a real fisherman, not just someone who has a degree in journalism...
