Curado, you don't seem to look to happy about that bird you're holding up.??
I did not score anything this year...or last year...or the year before that....noticing a trend? Sounds oddly similar to my fishing season :-k. Started carrying my .22 on my hip while out elk hunting because I kept jumping grouse on the way back to camp. Of course as soon as I started doing this I'd either not see any grouse or I'd only see them at the beginning of the hunt (not the time to be popping shots with the .22). Soon became annoying extra weight, so left it at camp....and saw four grouse on the next trip back to camp #-o. Considered trying to take the head off one with my .300 WinMag, but figured all I'd do is turn it into a feather duster at best and passed them by. Elk is the only thing I have time to hunt for anymore, so that limits the possibility of bringing something back during the season, but at least I still get the chance to do that! Better luck next year! Good luck to all my fellow hunters in the '10 season.

Hey bentrod I took a grouse's head off at 75 yards one time with my 270:cheers: It was in front of my dad and uncle they both were SHOCKED. I have actually killed more birds with my big rifles then I have with a shot gun hunting them... Of course I shot almost every day back then.

I figured something as much. I should have mentioned that I have a lot of similar pictures from my youth. lol.

It's a bonus when you have witnesses! Yeah, I used to be able to shoot like that when I hunted every weekend, but that was a long time ago. You either have to be really lucky or really good. With the big rifles, if you're close enough, you don't even have to hit the bird, the shockwave will scare them to death!
