When my boat comes in you'll have to get out in it with me. Get that skunk off the summer! ETA 1 month and counting. My wife tried some king roe when I got home last night, and she didn't really care for it. I told her it may be a little large to eat. The rest went into bait.

Like I thought I said earlier. I'll eat roe if its being served. I very seldom eat salmon roe at home nor do I prepare and serve it. A lil roe goes a very long way. King eggs arent bad but its hard to get used to that fishy popping roe when eating it. I get the heebie jeebies at times eating salmon roe. Actually the melts (sperm) from the males taste pretty good when fried. The taste is decent. The texture part is strange. Its amazing what Sriracha and or Tabasco will help in tastes.

RAC, it's actually Milt. When in the Biz I went around the bend trying to market it, it's almost impossible to just give away. It's actually pretty amazing stuff and I'll bet it helps with your recovery. It's just jam packed with different anabolic steroids and very high in protein. I was trying to get it out to the body building community but as you can guess except for a small % of the population they had a real problem gobbling "Nut". I had a food lab whip up some freeze dried powered salmon spunk with a generous amount of flavoring and other stabilizers and texturizers and stuff and made a "Muscle Man" shake that was extremely high in useable protein and steroids and compared to the off the shelf offerings from the supplement stores it actually tasted pretty good. Not mention it was very low in heavy metals to the extent of them being almost absent, heavy metals are a big problem with most over the counter protein drinks. We spent thousands trying to get it out but it just didn't catch on despite being a "Natural Alternative". For the most part what I found they were a pretty closed minded bunch and to make a product go you pretty much need to have a celebrity endorsement from the get go or you're sunk. I guess I should have claimed and pushed it could make your ....... grow bigger too......

Now go whip yourself up a juicy Milt shake!

When my great grandfather was alive ,he and his brothers owned Grand Trunk Fish on the Waterfront. He used to bring the milts and salmon heads home along with eggs cuz he knew Dad and I loved the eggs for fishing. Grandma used to fry milts with a breading and egg wash. It was really good. It didnt have that overpowerfull fishy flavor. We know that salmon and Steelies love roe. I wonder if they would eat the milt as well?If properly cured. I think eggs are easier to hook and loop. The Milt (spunk) would not be as firm as eggs get. Next buck I catch Im gonna try curing the milt in a Pro-Cure solution. Try it out.Maybe I'll catch Nelly Fish? LOL

It sounds like your egg loop might just cut right through it. Maybe try it in a spawn sack.

Hey did you already sell your old Drift boat because I am in the market. I am looking for something that is 4130 Cromoly but anything with a pizza oven would fit the bill ... :-"

Ive been putting up my pinks roe with cure then storing away for silver/steel season. Except 1 skein that I salted with coarse kosher salt. rinsed it off for a bit then cut a piece and ate it. Very nice eggs.Im letting the rest dry a lil bit more then try them.

I make a habit of eating a couple mouth fulls of roe with ocean caught fish, no more than an hour or so after catching. This year I've just been tossing the rest overboard, jars of cured row in the fridge I'll never use. I only eat the large mature eggs, I love the pop and creamy flavor/texture..... It doesn't seem fishy to me... raw, no more than an hour old..... I should try some processed like stated in above posts. In eggs or over rice sounds good... mixed in something.... heck, maybe something as simple as a dry brine with 50/50 salt/sugar would be good on crackers or a good garlic bread. I'll give it a try!

I forgot to mention it. But the last Pewgit Sound Coho I caught for this season. I was filleting, when the thought of fresh sushi crossed my mind. I don't recall being hungry, but popped a thin slice of that coho in my mouth. At the full ready to spat it out. Expectations were of a salty taste. Pleasantly surprised to discover not salty at all. In fact, rather mild in flavor! One more slice to confirm I could eat salmon this way, but that was the last slice for the adventurous side. The texture is just not wright.

Filleting the second fish, revealed a skein of eggs. That got me thinking of this thread. Hmmm...........what do those raw salmon eggs (coho) taste like? I ask myself "you ain't got the guts to eat one"! After a double dog dare from my inner voice. I once again prepared myself to spat out, for what would certainly be nasty, salty, slimy, fishy, and need to be spat out. Ummmm.............truth be told, it was pleasantly creamy, mild, once popping through the slightly tougher outer skin. Two more eggs went down the hatch! That is about the time the wife, stealthily appeared on the back deck, at my six! Wifee asked "male or female"? I answered "ever eat a raw, fresh caught salmon egg"? As, I turned toward her and popped one in the pie hole. For her, the gag reflex immediately jump started itself.

I would entertain eating another raw egg, but pass on the salmon sushi. Although, I understand adding a dipping sauce like Wahsabi. Ads an entirely new element to the ball game, and may cause reason for reconsideration.
