Fuel line conections

I got up this morning to give Lk Stevens a go my 8th time out this year. Primed the fuel bulb and pulled several times on my 8hp honda and it wouldnt start. I run it empty and drain the carb every time I put the boat away. I check the filter no fuel and check the bulb its hard. I check the fuel line and its not tight against the motor connector. If I push it in it sprays fuel out around the motor fitting. It did push some through the filter to the carb. Has anybody had this problem? I bought the hose new last year.

Check the Oring and see if it looks ok.

The only thing I can see is it looks like maybe the little bolt/pin that holds the locking gizmo might be loose (top pic). Could be the lock isnt engaging properly? if the fitting doesnt go on all the way, you wont get fuel.

You might also look at the other end to be sure the male piece that it locks onto is not rounded off or something like that.

I check the locking pin its tight. When its locked into place it rocks in and out on the fuel nipple. Do they make replacement o-rings for these?

Sounds like a bad o-ring and yes they sell new ones. You can take you old ring with you and match it up as well.

It also sounds like something could be sticking in there. Something is keeping it from sealing or matching up whether it is an o-ring or stuck parts. ( I know I totally just stated the obvious )

Not worth the trouble to screw around with. Undo the clap and toss it. Put on a new one and roll.

has anyone ever used those quick disconnect metal style that looks like an air hose fitting?

Those are not for fuel, they will leak. That part end might cost 15.00 online, not sure in a parts store I think Napa carries them.

Ahh...brain fart. I have had that on a tank before and they work good but not the motor end not sure but you could make a bracket or? I would say they are all going to work and last they all have there week points I am sure. I hope you find something to works for you, me I would just buy a new end and forget it or replace the o-ring and try that first, it does look like in the second picture there is a small piece of o-ring sticking out?? This might be the cause of problem just a small nick will ruin these.

In the second picture, It looks like the plastic is abraded, and that can and will cause an improper seal. Try smoothing the surface out and give that a shot before spending money. If the tank is just a year old, I do not see how a gasket can go bad that fast!

First thing that came to my mind too. A replacement would be cheap and easy to do,

Make sure you get one for your motor also. I know many of them look the same, ie Evinrude/Johnson, Yamaha but there's subtle differences like size of O-ring and plunger size. Metric VS Std. Napa used to handle them and they were cheap but you really had to watch out to get the right one.

Update for everyone. I just bought another of the same style pictured on top. Switching to a different style would have cost 50$ and the dealer said they were having some recalled. He thinks it was the heat expanding the fuel in my line and causing the o ring to break. Much cheaper to buy a new fitting than mess with an o-ring as well. Thanks all. Went fishing Sunday all works great.
