And for the record, I don't believe in Sasquatch, the Loch Ness monster, the Yeti, or the Legend of Boggy Creek.

Not to be dead horse, but just for the record... My Sasquatch comment was not meant to say that EMF, galvanic corrosion, or any of this was in question of being real, not that at all. I'm not even saying that it repels fish. I'm just saying that people are all over the map about it. Going with braid you don't have to even go down that path.

Re: Downrigger Cable
We have bananas on the boat all the time, I have a buddy that just freaks out at the bananas, so I to help him out when we are fishing, will hide 2 or 3 bananas around his boat....not knowing this, he still gets fish, than I will show him where I hid them..............lots of noise............
Re: Downrigger Cable
Just to balance things out a bit - aren't there at least three sides to every debate?
We have two Cannon electric riggers with the built in "Black Box" on our boat. It keeps the wire at roughly .6 volts at all times. Not much voltage and virtually zero current.
I considered switching to braid, but I would have two problems. The auto stop feature on the Cannons only works with wire. Its all electronic - no stop beads - and of course I would loose the "black box" function. These things retrieve waaaay too fast to give up the auto stop function. Does the Black box help us catch more fish? Who knows - there is no way to turn it off so I have no clue. Some days we catch fish, some days we dont
As far as the hum goes - the guys at Salmon University think its a good thing and claim it attracts fish. They recommend sticking with wire and forget the braid

Dang!....
The black box people have spoken.
It's hard to bid an argument with the Salmon University people.
They have fish education.

Re: Downrigger Cable
Yeah, the Canons may have all the gizmos but if it breaks, they're gone for 6 weeks minimum. So I just use the Scotty's and know they'll work every time I hook them up and I have the choice, braid or cable.Larry3215 wrote:My mom always told me to quit reading forums and go fishing or I would go blind. Re: Downrigger Cable
Sure do, but the fish are too stupid to know they aren't supposed to bite on gear trolled from a boat with bananas on board.G-Man wrote:Ah, but do you allow bananas on your boat?
Me neither. The Quadfather wrote:And for the record, I don't believe in Sasquatch, the Loch Ness monster, the Yeti, or the Legend of Boggy Creek.
Braid, no braid, personal preference. My downriggers don't need steel to function and I like that, but they can't bottom track and that's a feature I don't need for the kind of fishing I do.
