sounds like alot of fun. i'm hoping i'll be around to particiapate in it. my main problem is my fishing buddy may not be able to get the time off [thumbdn] , which makes it a tough go driving from the coast and launching by myself...

I just added another link to the town of Bridgeport. Maybe there's some more info available there.
http://bridgeportwa.com/
Her web site is brand new so it's written in Latin as a place saver. She says that the copy will be in English by next Tuesday.

Update... I gave Nell's Cafe a call, talked to a wonderful lady that has lots of info to share. She says that 100% of all proceeds will be put back into the purchase of more Triploids for restocking into Rufus Woods.
All other prizes will be supplied by the sponsers including Dave's boat.

well my buddy and i just got registered for this event and got our lodging reservations, etc all squared away. from what Nancine at Nell's Cafe in Bridgeport said, she's been pretty busy registering people and giving out info about the derby. i was just wondering how many people from Washingtonlakes.com are planning to attend? there will be a pre-derby seminar friday evening down by cheif jo dam at Willows Park. that should be interesting and answer any questions that people have.

i, for one, am pretty stoked about attending. aside from this being my favorite washington fishery, it will be nice to give the local community a financial boost as well as aid the triploid population of rufus woods...
along with info about the derby, Nancine also told me that in june (i beieve), WDFW will be opening the area between Pateros and Bridgeport for triploids, with a catch limit of 10 fish  =D> ...

Actually Mav,there's really quite a bit of parking there when you figure in all the different lots... somehow, i'm not picturing enough rigs for people to be up parking along the main road...but who knows?

A big heads up. Time is running out to register.
The Derby committee must have you officially registered by 7:00p.m. May 5th, for you to be eligible for any cash and/or prizes.

I just completed my registration through Nell's Cafe in Bridgeport over the phone. While talking to Nancine she mentioned that they've had a great turnout but that about 85% of the folks entering are non-local with alot coming from Idaho & Oregon. This will be my first ever fishing derby and I'm really looking forward to it.

Any idea how many entrants (so far) for the Woofus Wood fishin dewby? And, is there a cap on number of entrants or is that unlimited?

People coming from out of state ( 85% of the entrants), that sounds like a reeeeeaaally big turnout. Makes me wonder what a out of State WA fishing license costs these days? Or, some really clever people are paying the derby entrants fee for the drawing eligibility of the boat and other prizes. But eliminating the cost of a out of State license, gas, travel time, boat ramp hassles, lodging, food, mechanical mishap, gear, loading and unloading and planning by not attending. I do not know if the entrant needs to be in attendance when a prize is drawn. On many big items, they are not.

Not a bad idea really!

Gonna need to order up some traffic cops, boat safety and registration checkers at each boat ramp, a film crew to document the boat ramp follies, heavy presence of WDFW, parking attendants, and a pollution air monitor for all the 2 and 4 stroke exhaust flowing down stream but up wind. And the Sana cans........need 2 or 3 of those. Maybe not take your best boat or consider leaving your bumpers out, could be some paint swapping going on out there!

Good luck everyone! And please have fun, amongst the masses. There are going to be some SERIOUS people out there competing for some SERIOUS prizes.

Hey Moto,
85% of the people entering are non-local (Not from Eastern Washington) I guess I could have stated better...

BigD, thanks for that. Still curious how large a turnout this could be? And if there is a cap on the amount of entrants? As a side note. Just did a google search. Anyone staying at the 768 acre Bridgeport State park, the Discover Pass applies for this event:

Due to this event and the limited number of campsites available at Bridgeport State Park, camping is available by reservation only on May 11 and 12. To make a camping reservation, send an e-mail to nellscafe@earthlink.net or call (509) 449-3542. Discover Pass day visit and boat launch fees apply for this event, and boat launch area parking is limited. Overflow camping is not available during this event.

Good luck out there BigD and company.

You must be present to claim any prizes. The boat and cash prizes will be taged fish, not a drawing. It doesn't surprise me that 85% are non locals. I'm a local and not many of us fish Rufus. Most of us would rather be out bass fishing for the white meat. Also the $50.00 fee will keep the locals at bay, money is tight for a lot of people. The chance of winning that boat is slim to none, probably better odds at the casino. I'm guessing no one will win it. Either way I'm looking forward to a nice day on the water and hopefully meet some good people at the BBQ. Beats a good day at work.

did the lady at Nells say how they plan to notify comfirmation of registration. The rules stated we would be notified once they recieved your registration, but the packets and wrist bands would have to be picked up in person. I sent my registration off on monday and havn't heard from them.

Hey Mav,
I just got off of the phone with Nancine at Nell's Cafe and asked her your question. She stated that if you paid by Credit Card that your statement would be your confirmation of registration. Baring in mind that they planned for 75 entries and as of this morning had over 200. She plans on making phone calls and sending out emails starting this evening with the help of several behind the scenes helpers. I hope this info helps out but if it doesen't give her a call, she'll take the time to answer any questions that you might have. Nancine also stated, for the late bloomers that you can also set up registration at Hooked on Toys here in Wenatchee until 7:00 pm tonight.
