Lake Sylvia fishing conditions?

Post by geofftoons » Thu Jul 24, 2014 4:01 pm

Hi All, new to the forum. We're going camping and fishing at Lake Sylvia by Montesano next week and I was hoping someone had any recent info on fishing conditions there, or tips for fishing Lake Sylvia in general.

We've gone there almost every year for the last 5 years because it's a great campground, but have had to go usually around this time of year when it starts getting hot and the fish go deep, so we've been skunked most of the time. I really want the kids to be able to catch something this year if possible!

I would appreciate any advice, input, tips, or recent fishing reports on Lake Sylvia, or any recommendations on any place close by there where we might have better luck.

Thanks!
Geoff

Lost360, What kinds of patterns do well? Are you talking fly and bubble, or a different rig? Also, we're fishing from shore, we don't have a boat, if that makes any difference. I'm thinking we'll probably have to go deep and bottom fish if we're going to have luck right now because it's getting warm.

Also, what are best areas? The bridge? The dock by the damn? Somewhere else? I looked at the stocking report and it looks like the last time they stocked it was June 31 with 350 trout, average over 7lbs! So I'm hoping we can hook into a couple of those.

I appreciate your input, thanks! : )

As a regular fishermen at Sylvia, remember that weeds grow tall there so make sure you keep your bait high. I typically fish from the bridge using 6-7 foot leaders and I use a #16 treble hook. If your fishing from a boat, yes dragging a fly will typically get you some bites. when i fish from my pontoon I like to slowly pull either power eggs or power paste very slow. I use just enough weight to get the bait to slowly sink below the surface and then using the wind or my oars i slowly pull my bait and it doesnt take long for a trout to find it.

Good luck and great fishing.

Thanks everyone! I appreciate the advice. We had a great time! We only managed to catch 3 trout, all around 12" or so over the course of 4 days, bottom fishing with night crawlers. Power bait didn't get any bites at all.
