I get follows but can't close the deal
I'm fishing a fast moving river and when I toss out a spinner I get a trout following me back to the bank several times each time I hit this particular spot. I toss up river and slowly reel back in so I finish by the time I about 45 degrees down river. Can anyone please tell me what I can do to get them to hit or tell me what I'm doing wrong? Thanks!

when the fish is right behind, speed it up, then slow it down, he might run into the lure, and grab it before he does run into it.
During the retrieve speed it up, and slow it down a few times. Use a lure that you can retrieve slower.

Change lure color and it should be fish on.

+1. Try using a bigger spinner or one with a little more flash (like genuine silver plated) to trigger an aggressive strike.Weekend-warrior17 wrote:Change lure color and it should be fish on.

Sometimes scent will do it, but check the regs.

If you see em following but not hitting it change the action. Stop for a second, jig it, or change direction suddenly and speed it up for a couple cranks. Sometimes that unexpected action will get them to strike. Many times I will hold my rod to one side while retrieving then stop reeling, quickly switch sides and start reeling again, that pause and change in direction will initiate a strike. It is almost as if they are hypnotized and that little unexpected change will snap em out of it and get em to hit.
I fish not because I regard fishing as being terribly important, but because I suspect that so many of the other concerns of men are equally unimportant, and not nearly so much fun. ~ John Volker

Also if you're a 2 poler having a bobber staged next to where you track the fish often works. Lead them there, then they see something easier. Fish are lazy like us. "Cook dinner? Nah, takeout, orrrr... delivery!!!"
Basically any switchup in action, smell, or any of the senses often works.

Finally landed one but had to move a bit up river. I would add a photo but I can't figure it out.
