Can someone identify this fish. Wondering if it is a steelhead smolt? Wondering about the splotches/along the sides?
Not my fish. Did not catch it. Please don't sweat me on whether it's in or out of the water. Just a picture I came across.

I'm with Springer on this one. Rainbow and only time will tell if it decides to migrate to the sea, if that is an option.

Def. not a brook trout. I have to concur with the above folks who said juvenile rainbow. Sometimes I see in the alpine rivers at least, that the juveniles have the richly colored parr marks. They just look so different from a lake rainbow.

It's a native fish from East of the cascades. dont know if that says anything about the "Coastal" part of the cutthroat.
Not meant as sarcasm.
