Been a while since ive posted anything anyways ; Im going to buy a new rod in the next few weeks before the august opener. Im out of the spinning combos, and am going to be using a baitcaster for salmon

Im buying a Shimano Convergence. My question is what size of rod should I buy ? A 10'6 or 9'6? I mainly fish up in the rivers like the skok, and every once in a while the cow. Or the mouth of a river. I dont do much bobber fishing, i mainly use corky/yarn, jigs, spoons, and sometimes spinners. I fish with 3/4 oz weights when using corky and yarn. Ive used a buddies 10 foot rod once and liked it while jigging. So whats your guys opinion a 10'6, or 9'6? Thanks in advance !~ FB

I fish the skok a lot for kings and did really well last year, hooked 60 kings in 8 trips and I really like the lamiglas west coast premier 8'6 medium heavy graphite rod rated 10-20lb test 1/2-1 1/2 oz teamed with a revo and 25lb test to turn their heads from the lumber. Pretty good price at sportco give or take $150 but they go on sale for $80 every once in a while. Either that a berkely IM7 or 8 8'6 are really nice as well for like $55-80. I suggest a 8'6 but 9'6 are alright too.

Any advantages of the 9'6 over a 10 or 10"6? Besides the shorter rod is probably going to give you more leverage and control while fighting kings. The good thing I can see with the longer rod is more sensitivity and the length might help tire out the fish like a noodle rod.

9'6" Definitely! It's an awesome multi use length, and you can manage to cast it a whole lot easier than a 10'6 (I'll still drag out the 8'6" in really tight spots) But you'll enjoy fighting a fish with the extra length.
