I was out fishing LK. Serene with Gringo Pescidor tonight. It's a wonder that he fishes with me at all..... I feel sometimes like I spend a huge amount of time on the water with very little to show for it....... but that's another story.

My question is.... I was exploring the lake, since the lillies are down now, and the water was very clear I thought.
I saw an interesting thing near someones dock. Somebody had placed rocks about the size of basket balls, in a circle.
Within the circle there was about 5' sq. of open area that was all nice and pretty with gravel.
When I looked at it,, I thought I would spawn there if I could. :bounce:

Has anybody seen anything like this, or tried to facillitate spawning grounds for bass on your own? It looked purposeful to me.

If I lived on a lake, I'd do the exact same thing. More so with sunken wood and brush piles though.

exbassguide roger has made alot of spawning grounds. i havent myself but its something on my todo list, like making deep cover in summer time. all on my to-do list.

Many people tie old christmas trees to their docks and use cinder blocks to hold them down. All of this is in the name of habitat. I think the hope is that the structure will allow algae to grow, bait will congregate, and bass will feed. I have noticed on many lakes if there is a bass boat and not a ski boat in the boat lift, you can probably find trees, rocks, and concrete chunks all within throwing distance.

Friends don't let friends buy ski boats!

I've got 3 Christmas trees and about 6 yds of pea gravel spread throughout my pond. They use the pea gravel for nests and when the water's clear, you can see all kinds of critters (crawdads, snails, tadpoles)in the trees. Now I have to figure out a way to keep the bass from eating the wood duck ducklings that will be hatching in about a week.

Are there any WA state regs concerning the addition of "cover" to lakes? I believe some states have guidelines to help ensure that people aren't creating boating or swimming hazards. I know homeowners on many local lakes are very particular about the amount of vegetation in "their" lake so I wouldn't be surprised if they had a strong opinion about putting some cover in "their" lake. A little research could save you a few headaches.
