Choosing a Pedestal

I'm posting this in the bass section because I think the question better suits bass fishermen than any other group.
I spent the past week building a front and back casting deck for my 14ft boat. It's all carpeted and has hatches and storage and all that fun stuff now. The next step is installing a new bow mount motor and a leaning seat to use up front. I see a lot of posts that are around 12 - 14 inches and that doesn't sound right for a butt seat that I'll mainly lean on. It might be common sense but I'm wondering what the height range generally is on a bass boat. I'm not really worried about the center of gravity being too high, it's an old Valco with a wide beam and high sides. I know everybody probably has a different preferences on height so I'm thinking I'll need something adjustable to get it just right. Also, does anybody have any recommendations on a brand or specific type of mount, post, and seat?

Thanks for any answers!

I think you hit it right on the adjustable. I had one on my old boat that had a quick adjust handle. It went from normal seat ht to stand and lean by pushing a handle and allowing it to rise or pushing it down by sitting on it. If you shop around there are a lot of them out there.

I don't know if you can get one that will go from comfortable sitting height to comfortable leaning height. If the pedestal is only 12" tall when collapsed all the way, it cant extend much more than 6" to 8" above that. That's too low for me to lean against.

"Normal" seat height is somewhere around 15"-18" depending on how tall you are. For comfortable leaning, you need something more like 30-36" tall I would think. More bar stool height. You could maybe get by with as little as 24" but that's still too much range for a normal seat pedestal.

Try searching on Cabellas or Bass Pro for pedistals. They have everything there is available.
