Started the new year right. 1/1/2013 on the lake

Fieldtesting my brand new handpoured crawdad creature bait which may hit the market before spring.

Its smallie approved fishing it deep on a football head on deep wood.

Nice bronze backs and bow there! Looks awfully cold out there but hey, a day on the water is SO much better than a day inside. Keep em comming!

It's a cutthroat. You can tell by the red slash under the lower jaw.

Not being a bass guy persay. I was surprised the sub-trophy bass weights were so close. I thought a maxed out Largemouth, grow to a much larger size than a maxed out smallie.

Also, I has no idea smallmouth get so large, here in WA.

Correct. THAT is why the weights posted to be in this thread are stated as UNDER those weights, NOT those weights, but UNDER. The fish that weigh at, or MORE, go in the trophy thread. [biggrin]

state record smallie is 8 pounds and around 12 oz. World record is 11 pounds 12 oz or so. We are fairly close.

state record Largie is 11 pounds 9 oz. World record is 22 pounds 4 oz.

Back in the '90s it was said that there was a world record Smallie in Lake Washington. One or more people said they saw it, someone said he had the fish on his line but it got away. One person who I trust said so. And I know the area of the lake it was seen. Someday I'll fish that lake again.

I could look it up. But would rather ask it here. What body of water has the state Smallie, and Largie record?

I will guess, that WA largie record is held by the Potholes. The WA smallie.........hmmmm.......Lake Chelan, tapps, American, Lake Sam come to mind. Oh heck, I will go with the Columbia river, for a total guess.

I think it was Banks for the Largie or Smallie, and Tri Cities Columbia for the other. I think Potholes Largie record is 10 pounds, and have no idea for the Smallie from there. Silver Lake Cowlits Co. is/was 10 even or 10-2oz somesuch back in the '90s, back when it WAS the best Bass lake in the state.

Just looked it up. Smallmouth is from the Columbia(Hanford Reach) and the largemouth is from Banks Lake.

Silver is the best largemouth lake i have fished in Washington, even though it cost my lower engine major repairs lol.

Funny on the largemouth record. How many have heard from others that someone has caught one over 13 lbs or have seen one 13 or 14 lbs in some lake? Or the one I like too... a county record? Is there such a thing?

I think the reason you dont see new records because you need a witness when weighing the fish. One year on the Duwamish I caught a 18 lb steelie. I had to take it to a grocery store to weigh. I couldnt do that cuz it was a native. I think people dont keep bass and release most. Unfortunately with out a witness other then your best friend is needed. Thus records arent broken very much anymore . JMO

Plus, there is the nagging issue of removing a native from the water, (when illegal to do so) to weigh it.
