Northwest Fishing Reports

I purchased a new boat this week, well not "new, new" but new to me, and hit lake stevens today. fished with tubes, drop shot, and some beetle spins. I managed to get a few little dinks but that was it. I was wondering if anyone would care to share some of the secrets to this lake with me, i.e. locations, set-ups, etc.

Ive caught some on spinner baits, rapalas, and night crawlers. But my best advice is use something your confident with and cover alot of water. Fish up under all the docks. Theres a good rock pile on the north eastern side of the lake that puts out a few

Lake Stevens is a great lake in the Fall. Your electronics will be your best friend this time of year as there are a number of key structural features that will be holding concentrations of quality fish. As TW pointed out , using your unit will be key for bass'n this time of year ! Stay tuned for a new "Fall bassing video" coming soon that will help you get a better understanding of what to look for and also different rigs and baits will put fish in the boat .
The video that Mike suggested was shot during the summer months on that lake but you can pick up some key info in there that will give you a understanding of what to look for in general ..

I am so busy with travel/work/family these days that I often don't have the time to type out long replies. However, I still like to get on the fishing sites for a couple minutes here and there to read some posts and help out a fellow angler whenever I can. This is the closest I get to fishing these days with the exception of the couple afternoon trips I have made this Fall.

If I miss a call, I will always get back to you. It might take a couple days if I am traveling, but I will definitely return all calls.

Thanks guys. In the future I will make a point to utilize my electronics when on the water, just a bit more moving around in the boat due to the fact that my finder is located on the console. Might add a unit up front in the future. I did manage to find the rocks on the south side of the lake and managed to get a few strikes on a jointed rapala. I would say that I am most confident in plastics as that is what I have the most experience using, but my experience with these is limited. I'm fairly green to bass fishing here but with Stevens being in my back yard I plan to hit it regularly. Those vids played a big role in my decision to start my pursuit of bass (Small mouth in particular) on Lake Stevens. I appreciate the tips you guys provided and will be sure to post results of my future outings. Thanks again.

I'm in Snohomish......now.

I have not done much fall bass fishing on Stevens, but in the spring & summer, small crankbaits kick butt. My favorite is the Wally Diver by Cotton Cordell. It has a slim profile that smallmouth really dig. I've also caught trout, perch, and crappie with it. Sparkle Fire Tiger is the best pattern.

If the fish are relatively shallow, a 4" weightless senko is also a killer. If they are deeper, try drop-shotting a 3" yum dinger rigged wacky-style. Best colors are watermelon w/blk & red flake and green pumpkin w/blk flake.

Cranks for sure and big spinners that'll get ya deep. Don't be afraid to work open water and go deeper than normal if structures and underwater shallow structures aren't hitting. That lake holds huge smallies so be ready for a fight!
