Re: Looking for a distributor cap

That a hard one to find if availability is there. Used to have a pile of them from stripped motors in the past and haven't needed one for years. I'll check my bosses stash. Also be aware that those motors were notorious for burning the center cylinder up because it only has two carbs. There was a re...

Re: New outboard purchase in Canada

He's said the magic words, he's correct in saying the warranty will void if you purchase in be and bring back. It has to do with taxes involved with the border crossing. Don't know why byput Yamaha and Mercury both will do the same on warranties.

Re: 1983 Mercury 9.8 hp question?

From the mechanics stand point e10 is literally a pain in our ass. All my large boat customers have bought non ethanol fuel at the fuel dock because they are not trailerable boats and see little trouble with fuel. Trailered boat have caused my carb rebuilding skills to skyrocket the last 8 or so yea...

Re: Frozen Steering Cable - How to Fix It?

He's correct on the replacement. When I have these come into our shop we simply cut the cable off so it easily manageable and use a air hammer to drive the stuck ones out. Remember to us a long 5/8 drill bit to ream the tube and clean it before greasing and reinstalling the cable. Simple process and...

Re: Wilderness Pack Specialties Kill bag or Insulate my fish

Just rebar that you can buy a dedicated large ice maker for the price of that cool catch. I bought one and it makes a Ron of ice and I can keep restocking it as needed.

Re: Small kicker motors

Believe me, Mercury is very proud of there rebranded motors. Biggest problem is some dealers get better discounts because the buy them by the container load. Unfortunately here in Washington we also pay for shipping on loose motors also so that has to be factored in also. It wouldn't hurt to look at...

Re: Small kicker motors

Older Yamaha kickers down to 6 hp were twin cylinders and would get you the troll speed you want with our the vibration. All the new Yamahas and mere are all 1 cylinder motors and vi rate like hell! Lol. Of all the motors I've serviced and repaired the mer and Yamaha kicker seem the best overall, bu...

Re: Crabbiing area 13?

I've been hearing a few good things, working down at narrows marina has perks like seeing all the guys coming in and out from fishing. I've heard that wollochet has been ok and there's a lot of rock crab being pulled. Shoot me a pm and I'll give you some more info so it doesn't burn the area up!

Re: Smoker craft quality question

Having worked on and sold smoker crafts for a local dealer, I can say that if it's used gently they are fine. The worst of it usually occurs when salt gets under the floor boards and begins to cause corrosion and some times electrolysis at riveted points. On the newer models the welds seem to be ok ...

The purpose of the point one is a, faster acquisition, b, it's has a bearing compass built in and c is the amount of data exchanged. Instead of once or twice a second info its transmitting ten or more per second making it more accurate.

It's tough when you just wanna use your boat! The upside is the amenities in a large boat, hot coffe, heat, bathroom, warm food, the downside is how tough it is to manage a28 foot boat in shallow water with outgoing tides. May have to leave the boat at the slip and do some foot work!

Re: More politics in Puget Sound fisheries management?

It's a sad day when the resources that we the sportsman love are in jeopardy due to large business waste and some of the poorest fisheries management in the world. Kinda like our licenses and taxes.....aren't they supposed to help out game and fish rather than go in the "general fund" to pad some po...

Re: Please use Common Sense. This could have been much wors

I'm on the water five days a week ( marine mechanic) and nothing scares me more than when a customer brings in a boat the sketchy at best, has no clue about the dangers of the sound and are gung-ho to take their tattered tub across the sound with little or no knowledge of how unsafe their boats are....

Re: More politics in Puget Sound fisheries management?

The pollution is a particularly concerning to me being a marine mechanic and being based on the water. My boss is also a avid sportsman and our cardinal rule is simple, if it hits the ground it gets cleaned before it creates a sheen( if waters on ground). Growing up on Tacoma I remember the rumors o...

Re: More politics in Puget Sound fisheries management?

Another gloomy update from the Kalama fisheries. My partner found out the automatic wier removed 24000 fish and only let 800 natives upriver. All fish were killed by cutting off their tail and dropped back on the river. Now I'm sorta pissed!

I know Chico but unfortunately I'm using my 28 ft boat and fuel would sting a bit to get there and my dads physical limitations prevent me from taking him anywhere where we would normally wear waders. I'm in Browns point area .

Re: More politics in Puget Sound fisheries management?

Exactly bodofish. My partner lives in Vancouver and he fishes the Kalama ritually and this year they put up a wier in the slack water and let unclips pass through and killed all clipped fish on site. I understand restoration of natural runs but real " native fish are basically non existent. When ask...

Re: More politics in Puget Sound fisheries management?

The body of water on question is the green river watershed , also the cedar river and lake wa runs. Having been around the area all my life it does bug me watching the stocks dwindle with little or no management from the state. I also remember those days when we could fish for yellow eye, rock fish ...
