I arrived at the lake about 6:30am and launched the kick boat from the large city park on the west side of the lake (Thornton A. Sullivan Park). Caught and released my first bass ever (1-2lb fish) working a dock with a black/yellow Chernobyl Ant with a small bead head damsel pattern as a dropper (it grabbed the dropper). No other bass action but I did see a fairly large carp swim near me and also two other fish that looked to be carp as well feeding/splashing in the lily pad field right off the park.
I kicked over to the wooded point at the south end of the lake and found a nice spot where a school of rock bass were holding. Using a sparkle grub fly on a full sinking line I kept in constant contact with the bottom and caught/released 5 of the little guys.
Called it a day around 10am and left the lake to the hawaiian rowers who were having a racing event on this nice sunny morning.
