Left midnight on Tuesday, 6/6/06, for Rufus Woods Lake getting there by about 5:30 that morning. I've always wanted to fish it, but never had a chance to try it. Its the lake where state record rainbow trout have been caught, approx 25
lbs in size. It also is known for its 2-3 lb Kokanee.
While the best time to fish the lake is the winter months, I couldn't resist
checking it out since I was going to be in Chelan for our annual get together that coming Saturday.
Lauched at Willow Flats boat ramp, which is just above Chief Joseph dam and is operated by the Corp of Engineers also. Didn't have much luck, only getting 3 bites all day. I did have a 2-3 lb rainbow to about 10 feet from
the boat before I lost it though. One of the pictures I'm attaching is of the
Sonar screen showing all the big fish that were down there, I just think they weren't biting at the time I was there as it was already 80 degrees when I got
there.
Started out with Pop gear and a wedding tipped with worm, but hooked the rainbow using a wedding ring attached to a bottom walker. Looking forward to trying it again in November when the fishing is supposed to be better.
