I was talking with a fishing friend earlier in the week and we were taliking about the Quincy lakes area. he said that he had heard from another fisher that Stan Coffin had been 'rehabilitated'. I thought that this would be a shame because of the really sizeable LMB there. And, being a CATCH n' RELEASE lake (bass), I didn't think this would be a wise decision for F&W to do. So; upon arrival I approached the waters cautiously. Well it looked ok, no dead fish, but none of the usual Bluegills either. The launch did't appear to have been used recently and I was the only one out. However , this changed soon as a couple of rigs with pontoon floats arrived. I launched, and threw a few cranks, the results were negitive. I switched to plastics and soon had a nice LMB, the slight breeze was now upgraded to gusts. Before the morning was over I had picked 5 or 6 more really large bass.
But the highlight was the boating of a nearly two footer, it was not a bass, but I'm not going to say the species so as to discourage those who like to show up with those large white coolers that they feel compelled to fill.
One thing about Stan Coffin is that its a small lake and more compatable to smaller craft, and not big bass boats or multi-species boats, its a place for fun and relaxation. And the release of fish caught.
As I exited I noted that the wind had sent the flyfishing pontooners packing, this is understandable, because I'd probably say this was a '5' day except for these spring winds. Also I noticed the F&W doing a fish count, they were measuring some nice LMB.
They also said there were no plans to change this nice little lake, that they knew of.
All in all the results of catch and release are very evident here. GOOD LUCK !
