My son Bryan and I fished Martha Lake today. We spent a few hours on the lake, and had a good time. Fishing was pretty slow during the time we were there (1pm to 4pm). We were fly fishing. I tried all my usual "lucky" lake flies (Damsel nymph, hares ear, zug bug, spruce) with only 2 hits.
Bryan however, put a red and white Mepps on his fly line and managed to connect with a nice fish. It made a pretty jump right next to his pontoon boat and came unbuttoned. I talked to a few fishermen coming in - most had a few fish. There were 3 kids that did very well - (powerbait and fish by the big rock wall). They said the "bite" happened at 9am and lasted only a short time. Their fish were bigger than I expected - with almost half looking like holdovers. The shore fishermen on the south end looked
like they had a few fish on stringers. Didn't see many limits, but most had a few fish.
Martha is a nice little lake - maybe 2 miles East of I5, just north of
Lynnwood. There is a boat ramp - fairly cramped, but adequate - with not much parking - there is an extra lot just south of the ramp/parking area.
There are no gas motors, so it's pretty quiet. We saw 4 eagles. This is worth a return trip in early summer.
