WE DECIDED TO GO FOR THE NIGHT BITE TODAY
WE FISHED SAT. DIDN'T GET STARTED TILL 2-30
FIRST TIME ON THE LAKE.PRETTY LONG LINE AT THE BOAT LAUNCH.(IT COSTS 5 BUCKS TO USE).
MOST PEOPLE COMING IN HAD AT LEAST 1 OF THOSE BROOD STOCK FISH RECENTLY PUT IN.
PRETTY EXCITING.NICE LOOKING TROUT (WONDER WHERE THEY COME FROM?
WE FISHED TILL 7-00 GOT THREE 10 TO 12 INCH BOWS. (TROLLING WORMS).
WE TRIED STILL FISHING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE LAKE,BUT WERE STRUCK BY A SKI BOAT TURNING AROUND TO PICK UP THEIR INNERTUBER!(SERIOUSLY.THEY ACTUALLY HIT US.BY THE TIME WE SAW THAT THEY WEREN'T TURNING...TOO LATE!
NOT ENOUGH SPEED TO DO ANY REAL DAMAGE.
WE WENT HOME TO FIGURE OUT THIS LAKE.
CAME OUT TONIGHT (MONDAY 14TH)AT ABOUT 7-00
TO CATCH THE NIGHT BITE.THERE WERE A COUPLE OF SKI BOATS ON THE LAKE. WE WERE SCARED,CONSIDERING OUR FIRST EXPERIENCE HERE.
BUT WE WANTED TO HOOK INTO ON OF THESE BIG TROUT THAT PATROL THESE WATERS BEFORE THEY ARE GONE!
STARTED TROLLING DOWN THE LAUNCH SIDE HEADING SOUTH.USED #16CORKIE SMALL BEAD AND #12 SINGLE EGG HOOK.CHRIS USED A PATTERN HE TIED THE NIGHT BEFORE.
AS WE NEARED THE SOUTHEND OF THE LAKE WE HADN'T HAD ANY BITES. ALTHOUGH THE F.F. SHOWED FISH.
THIS LAKE IS PRETTY SHALLOW,30 FT IS ABOUT AS DEEP AS IT GETS.A LOT OF MILLFOIL TOO.
AVERAGE DEPTH I WOULD SAY IS 9-14 FT. FROM BANK TO 50-75 FT OUT.
THERE WERE THREE GUYS FISHING FROM A DOCK ON THE EAST SIDE. ONE OF THEM HAD A NICE SIZE BOW ON! AFTER ABOUT 2 MINUTES HIS BUDDY NETTED IT FOR HIM.ABOUT 2 LBS. WHEN HE PULLED UP THE STRINGER WE NOTICED ABOUT 4 OTHERS JUST AS NICE.
WE SLOWED DOWN. AND MADE ABOUT 5 PASSES THROUGH. HOOKED 3 ROCK BASS TWO OF THEM WERE MAYBE A POUND? KEPT US PUMPED THOUGH.
AFTER WATCHING THOSE GUYS HOOK@LAND 2 MORE WE PRESSED ON.
CHANGED GEAR TO A 16TH OUNCE RUDDERED WEIGHT ANT A #14 GOLD TREBLE WITH CAPT. AMERICA POWER BAIT.
ITS JUST GETTING DARK AND A LITTLE WINDY.
WE DRIFT WITH THE WIND OUT TOWARDS THE CENTER.
JIGGING THE BOTTOM,AND KICKING THE MOTOR UP SPORADICALLY HEADED NORTH.
ON MY 4-1/2 FT QUANTUM ULTRALIGHT COMBO,LOADED WITH TRILENE 4# TEST I FEEL A LIGHT TAKE,OR MAYBE BOTTOM? I GAVE IT A LITTLE ACTION,NOTHING.I SENT IT BACK A COUPLE OF PULLS AND WHAM!!!ZZZZZZZZZZZZZT!! ZZZZZZZZZZZZT... ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZT!!
MY ROD BENT OVER IN HALF,I KEPT SOME TENSION IN THE LINE, AND TIGHTENED MY DRAG 2 CLICKS.
HE WAS DEEP AND STAYING THERE. GIVE AND TAKE FOR ABOUT A MINUTE.SLOWLY I GAINED LINE AS HE CAME UP.
MAYBE 10-12 FT. FROM THE BOAT I GOT A LOOK.
WOAH!! GET THE NET!!
REMEMBERING MY ULTRALIGHT SETUP AND 4# TEST,IMAGINED HIM BREAKING OFF AND SWIMMING AWAY. NO WAY MAN NOT THIS TIME.
HE SAW THE BOAT AND THRASHED ON TOP FOR A SECOND OR TWO(VERY TENSE MOMENT)!
CHRIS NETTED HIM FROM BEHIND. KILLER JOB..!!!
NOW WERE PUMPED!!
FISHED IN A SIMILAR PATTERN FOR AN HOUR OR SO MORE. WE MARKED ALOT OF FISH ON THE F.F. BUT ONLY HOOKED 1 MORE 12 INCHER. STILL ALOT OF FUN. COULDNT ASK FOR A BETTER TRIP. WOOO-HOOOO. LATER ON THE WAY HOME WE STOPPED AT SAFEWAY TO WEIGH THE TROUT. HE CAME IN AT 6-1/2# AND MEASURED 24 INCHES.
THATS THE BIGGEST TROUT IVE EVER CAUGHT. LIGHT TACKLE SURE IS FUN...
